garrettsmith
When my fiance was driving home from work last night in her 1996 GS300 she stopped at a red light. When the light turned green and she pressed the accelerator the car's check engine light came on and it would not go anywhere. The revs would go up but there was no movement from the car. When I went to meet her I turned the car off and restarted it. Put it in drive and was able to drive it back to our house with the check engine light still illuminated. It kicked once on the way and once I stopped in our driveway it did the same thing. I put it in reverse, drive, sport and low only to have the revs go up when I pressed the accelerator pedal but the car would not move. Any thoughts about what could be the possible problem? We have had no problems with this car, ever. All services have been completed on time and there was no indication that anything was going to go wrong. It does have around 170K miles on it though so unfortunately something was bound to happen I suppose.

From a cold start I can drive it for about 1/2 mile before the transmission starts slipping to the point of no forward movement (or reverse, for that matter). I've changed the ATF (which was dark brown) twice already, but still the same behavior. Tomorrow I'll drop the whole pan and check the screen. Let me know how you make out and I'll do likewise. --Carl
