90LS400Lexus Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I am getting an occasional and MINOR clunking/clank type sound on some downshifts when I am slowing and I do not have the blower on or radio. It sounds like u-joints may be on the blink. I am wondering though if a bad transmission mount would also cause this? I know my engine mounts are toast and tranny mount probably is as well. I am getting them both changed and wondering in advance if a tranny mount would cause this clunking sensation/sound?

More than likely a transmission mount...I have had that problem and thats what it was on my car...the Lexus I have now doesnt do it..but it has been an issue in the past..it was a back transmission mount..when I came ahead on the engine it would raise without much noise..when I let off of the gas the transmission would set back down causing a klunk sound by the weight dropping...sorry cant be more help maybe someone will reply with more helpful info... goodluck hopefully getting them changed will fix the issue
90LS400Lexus Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 Thanks. Yeah, I am sure they are both shot. Also I have a shaking of the gear shifter at highway speeds.
