Couple Questions About This Problem With A Sc300

Recommended Posts

whats up every 1. im new to the lexus game. ive been driving turbo 240's that ive been drifting and mustangs and rx7's. long story short i like the sc300's after seeing the soarer drift car which are my intentions of doing 1 day. ok so any way back to the lex. its a 92 sc300 with 195k on the clock. its a clean body. im getting a super cheap deal on i. runs smooth. shifts good yes its a 5spd and i only own manual cars. ok so the issues with it check engine light on which im not to worried about. needles are barely able to seen. no biggie there. but the only issue im stuck on and cant seem to figure out is its steering problem. it takes me about almost 1 full turn to the left or right for the wheels to actually start turning. wtf is the problem? i cant seem to figure this problem out. now the owner told me he ran over a big pot hole in a major town. but still that shouldnt effect that. could this be the rach and pinion? are they hard to exchange? lol and i rather shoot my self then take this to a dealer. the power steering is leaking. due to that line that i hear is the commen line that leaks. easy fix for me no biggie.

but yeh i just curoius on that turning issue it has.

im in south NJ so if any 1 is close to me that would like to check it out that would be helpful to

Just my two cents here man...

If you want to build an SC300 drift car... Don't start with a 195k-mile beat up old thing with a serious steering rack problem. The engine will probably blow a couple of rods as soon as you crank up the boost.

Unless you're ready to do an engine (and maybe tranny) swap, new steering rack, suspension, etc... I'd pass on this car.

If you're going to rebuild it anyway, then what do the problems matter?

Peace,

Pete Zaria.

well first off *BLEEP* all i was askin was the steering issue. dont worry about the motor or tranny or what ever else with the bushings, i can easily take care of that with a ls7 and some polyuthrene bushings, all i wanted to know if any 1 else here had this problem with the steering. id like to drive this car for 4-5 months till the winter comes and off it goes to get cut the *BLEEP* up

I'm no mechanic but it sounds to me as if part or all of the steering linkage is broken. You're probably going to end up fixing / replacing most of the steering system and rack.

Part #: W0133-1793950 (Google it)

May also need a steering damper and various suspension parts.

Peace,
