I took it in for an oil change and Firestone is telling me that it needs to be replaced. I have had the car for 9 mos and have only driven 3000 miles. I travel for my job and have a company car. Grumpa72 Posted July 12, 2008 Share Posted July 12, 2008 While it is not normal for a ball joint to fail this early, things can and do happen. If this were my car, I would ask another mechanic to verify that the ball joint is indeed bad. I am not saying that the Firestone guy is trying to gouge you but I haven't heard of a modern ball joint failing that early.
