Driver Headlight Out!

Recommended Posts

Black, GS400 '00. Miles- don't rem. for sure, over 110,000.

Bought this car in 2003, have not had a single "smooth" year. Nothing "crazy" but little nuisances.

I have a love/hate relationship with this car. New to the board, will elaborate on the *love* part some other time...currently hate the car, or my mechanic.

Today's problem(s): :(

Last year headlight blew out, bought new light bulb, worked!

Couple of months ago, same prob: brought a lightbulb (bought it on Ebay) to my mechanic, he replaced it, but still no go. Headlight still out. He told me I need to change my balancer (he is from South Africa with a heavy accent), maybe he meant Ballaster? Car not under warranty, DEALER will rape me! So, I looked for a "balancer"- NOTHING! Then someone told me it could be the HEADLIGHT CONTROL COMPUTER (something like that). Tried to find info on line, NOTHING! <_<

Anyway, headlight still out- dont know what to do with it. Today received a MOVING VIOLATION ticket and have 24hrs to correct the problem!!!

If anyone has a suggestion, or an idea, (about the headlight, not the ticket) I would REALLY appreciate it- SO LOST right now!!! :(

Many thanks in advance,

Alya :)

Have you taken a look at the wiring harnesses behind the light. Sometimes a wire short can cause the lights to be dim, flicker, or even burn out. Look for any exposed wires or broken harnesses behind the headlamp. As far as a headlamp control computer I wouldn't know. unless it has the corner steering lights that move when you turn a corner then could be. However I don't think your model or year supports that function. Hope this helps.

Thanks!!! After much research, i think i figured out the problem- it is possible that my ballast went out- (is that the same as a wiring harness?) Its a box with wires, ordered the part will see what happens :)

Thank you though!
