Iacv & Air Induction Service

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I need help. While I was out, my '99 ES300 starts then dies. I can only start it if I put my gas on the pedal. As soon as I take my foot off, the engine dies. It is been happening from past 2 weeks. I took it to the dealer and he is saying that I need Idle Air Control Valve & air induction service. I found the topics with cleaning the IACV, which is really helpful. But I dont know anything about 'AIR INDUCTION SERVICE'. can anybody point me to the right direction. By the way the dealer is quoting me $821 for both. (IACV & Air Induction Service). Please help me soon, as I have to make a decision.

Thanks & appreciate all your help.

Your problem is more than likely the IAC valve. What I think he means is to check the entire air induction system which includes the IAC valve, Maf valve, Egr, air filters and the entire induction manifold . Clean the IAC valve and you will be surprised at the results and will not probably need the AIR INDUCTION SERVICE.

Good Luck!!

I just don't know how dealers come up with these ridiculous prices of $821. I cleaned my IACV and senors and hoses where carbons built up. The cost was $3 for a bottle on throttle cleaner, $9 for both throttle and IAVC gaskets and a few short handle wrenches. All for less than $30, plus about 3 hours of labor. This was the first time I did it. The next time would be faster. I just can't figure out $821 for three hours of work. The three hours also included removing two stripped screws.

By the way, one of the posts actually have pictures showing you how to clean the IACV. Oh. .Tom Wood Lexus quoted $100 for this service at his shop in one of the posts. You make the call $821 vs. $100.
