pb111 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I just bought a 1997 Lexus ES with 188,000, miles on it. I brought it home and I can hear a "clicking" sound coming from the Engine. the car appears to be in great shape ! It does have 188,000 miles on it. Question: If it is a Value Tap Should I get my Money back if I can? or See if I can get a couple years out of it? It only coast me $3,600.00 Dollars. Thanks Paul
gbhrps Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 You need to take the car to a Toyota or Lexus dealer and let them listen to the engine. Being familiar with what noises these engines make and what causes it will make the diagnosis easier and more accurate. They should be able to set your mind at ease very quickly, and suggest what direction you should go. These engines are fairly bullet proof and at worse you may just need an oil change to free up a sticky lifter (if that's what the problem is). Then again, there may be something more sinister, but an engine with this mileage on it should not be a candidate for major repairs. They go and go unless the previous owner beat the pi** out of it. Good Luck!
Moek2000 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I have a 98 ES300 with 150,000 miles and I have the same problem. Lifter makes a clicking sound... So far, I've tried some additives, but hasn't helped... Any advice?
