miltt Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 ES300 2001 with 46,000 miles Steering was slow to respond and imprecise. Our mechanic found that the nut that holds the bolt through the steering joint and subframe bracket was loose! The hole in the bracket on the subframe had gotten larger from the loose bolt rubbing. The nut is supposed to be welded to the bracket, but the nut was silver color and not welded to the subframe. According to Lexus computer record, the repair was done by Lexus of Clearwater, FL. about 3 years ago. Instead of tightening the bolt into the welded nut, they found it easier to tighten the loose nut. Past warranty. However, should I complain to Lexus or the dealer? Also, concerned that dealers may be making repairs this way and that Lexus should issue a repair advisory. Thanks for any advice.

Since this repair has been recorded in the Lexus computer system, the first thing I would do is contact the dealer first, and then if you don't get satisfaction, call the Lexus Corporation. A job that was done incorrectly, even though it's out of warranty should be honored.
