Difference Between Front/rear Wheel Drive Rims?

I'm looking for rims and I notice some of them will say front wheel drive. Why do they say that? Are they only ok for front wheel drive vehicles??? What makes them that way? If they can't be used on rear wheel drive just curious, why not?
