Tapperal
Any help on this issue would be appreciated. I have a 98 GS 400 and recently the check engine light came on. My mechanic ran the diagnostics and replaced the purge control valve. The light came back on shortly there after. He then replaced the Evap Canister - not a cheap venture, and the check engine light came back on again. He mentioned the possibility of changing the computer, but at over $3,000 this is not something I'm willing to do. The car has 105K miles. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Ari
GuyTelefunken
Find a competant mechanic. It sounds like you may be a victim of the "trial and error" repair technique. The evap system has good diagnostics capabilities. Unfortunately, several tools are required to diagnose problems properly. Not to mention, experience and knowledge. I would bet money that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the computer. I have seen only a very, very small number of bad ECU's in almost 35 years of car repair. Not one was Japanese.
