Lex300GS
(Note, your original post seems to have dissappeared. Please repost your question if you like.) The chances are slim that this is a problem related to your timing belt. From what you have said, I think you should find a different garage. The service you seem to be receiving, per your description, is not how Lexus service typically is. Whether or not the noise is related to the check engine light cannot be confirmed unless we were to know the codes which are in the computer causing the light to come on. You should be able to narrow down the area of the noise yourself by simply getting your ear close to various parts of the engine. A trick the old-timers use is to get a wooden stick, such as a broom handle or similar and put your ear to it. Touch the far end of the stick to the suspected component. This should make it easier to pinpoint the noise/component. If you find that the noise is not seeming to come from an external component such as the alternator or A/C compressor, it may infact be internal to the engine. In this case, the diagnosis gets more difficult and is best left to a reputable, competent mechanic. If you do not like the service you are getting where you normally go, the obvious choice is to look elsewhere.

Yea that is werid that it disappeared, but i would still like to hear what you have say GuyTelefunken since i really want to get this problem resolved. Whoever posted the first reply, thanks alot. You are right, I have been trying to find another dealership but have yet to find a reputable one that i feel that is not trying to rip me off (i get very perinoid). Think i might invest in one of those, lexus hand held gizmo thing. I will definately try that wooden stick technique and see what i find, thanks again. Another thing, i am new to the forum, but i want to know how active is this site, maybe its just me but it seem slow compare to the other forums that i have been on, maybe im just werid :D
Lex300GS
Alright, so i got a change to open the hood today and tried to pin point where the whistling schreeching noise was comming from and it seem to be comming from the front where the belt is. I still need to wait for autozone to have the scantool available so that i can get the code and see what the problem is. If anyone experience the same problem as me, please let me know, its really driving me crazy. Thanks
