Marine Or Boat Wax

Recommended Posts

I was the other day looking to buy products and a customer to whom I recommended Invisible Glass, (thanks to this Club forums, which he bought a bottle after foretold) when I talked about car waxes he told me the following:

"I do not use car wax on my car anymore since the marine wax lasts longer and even as it is a little more expensive is pretty good, it lasts longer and shines just as good as the car ones".

Please opine on the matter, or shine the light.

Sincerely,

C PR

Old wives tale. The "Marine Wax" he's talking about is probably Collinite. There are several Collinite waxes that are formulated for automotive finishes. They DO last longer than your typical carnuaba but they are harder to apply and they aren't as "pretty". Meguiars #16 is another such wax, although it was axed because of the new EPA VOC regs.

Your friend needs to be careful using marine waxes to wax his car. Paint on boats is an uncoated gelcoat, and its very different from a clearcoat paint on a car. Gelcoats are much softer and they oxidize quickly, because of this most marine waxes are one step cleaner waxes that have a lot of abrasives in them to remove that oxidation. They're not designed for the paint on a car.
