belasarius Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I have a 96 SC400. A little while back all the speakers but the drivers side forward stopped working right. They are all very low or not putting out sound. I assume some of the wiring got loose, but how do I check it? I can't find where I may have pulled it out somewhere in the trunk? Anyone know what is wrong? I suppose they could be blown but I kinda doubt it.
caglo Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 It's probably your amp in the trunk, under the cd changer. Sometimes water drains near the amp and causes problems, sometimes it just acts up. I don't really have a fix for you besides a new amp, if it is the problem anyway.

Immortality300 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 yeah that problem happened to me awhile ago, it was weird, i was making at urn, i took the turn really hard and the back of hte car kind jumped i was going a little fast, al the swudden the speakers went out and they were REALLLYYYY LOW (btw i have 95 sc400), i turned the volume up all the way and it was so low of sound, so i took to lexus specialist he said it was the amp n stuff, so i went on my search for a used amp for like 1 day non stop, i could not find one, i go outside to check the problem maybe open up the trunk and check the amp, i turned on the car, all the sudden the speakers are in full blast and working.....?????????? WEIRD!!! i guess awire was loose or some water got in cus it was raining the day before, idk it was weird but yeah it worked the next morning =], check the wires if there loose!
blind_devotion Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I have a 1995 Lexus SC400, which i bought used almost a year ago. As was said earlier this is not an uncommon problem for SCs from what I hear. This happened to my car some time ago, and I have still yet to fix it. What happens is the hose that takes the leakage from your gas cap area gets disconnected and that hose is right over the amp and CD changer; so if the hose gets disconnected every time you get your car washed, it rains, or you spill a little gas, it's basically spraying it all over your amp and CD changer. If your speakers went out for a little, then started working again, get this fixed or you amp will be fried permanently. My speakers went out and came back several times and I though it was just loose wiring, but they have been out for 4 months now. I took this problem to my local Lexus dealer and they told me it was common and that they could replace the amp and rewire, etc. but surprised me with a estimate of $1,200!!! I have since been to every Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. that I could find and none of them know what to do or just dont want to mess with it. So if anyone has a do-it-yourself solution or knows an easier way to get this fixed than shelling out over a grand for a new amp and some wiring please let me know. Thank you.
