goal15
I have a 2000 LX 470 that I love and want to maintain but cringe when the Lexus dealership says it's time for a big maintenance (i.e 125,000). I am at a point that I don't want to pay for items that are not broken and last time the dealership told me it was time for a big checkup (90,000?) it cost me $2,000. I looked online for a list of items that are included in the 125,000 mile checkup but could not find. Any suggestions?
monarch
What did you have done for $2,000 @ 90,000 miles?? At toyota.com you can click on OWNERS and download a Scheduled Maintenance Guide for the Land Cruiser (mechanically the same vehicle as yours) and look through the list of services that should be done at different time and mileage intervals. . At around 90,000 - 120,000 there are additional services that need to be done that aren't listed in the Guide. Maybe the dealer already did some or most of them at 90,000, but we won't know unless you list what the dealer did for $2,000 at 90,000 miles. Jim_Chow
120K mi service is the same as the 60K service. Basics for any vehicle would be to replace the plugs, belts (not the timing belt, as that should have been done at 90K), full coolant flush, ATF flush, replace fr/rr diff fluid, t-case fluid, engine oil & oil filter, air filter, flush brake fluid, check hoses for leaks (radiator hoses can start to weep long before they go), check brakes for leaks, check brake pads, lube drive shafts, etc. For the LX, you additionally have the cabin air filters and AHC fluid to flush. Also, water pumps can go bad around 120K mi (hope you replaced it at 90K mi since it's behind the timing belt). PS: some Toyota dealers (try ones where the owner doesn't also own a Lexus dealer) will work on Lexus vehicles.
