Hi I just purchased a 94 es300. Only after 100 or so miles, the check engine light comes on. I take the car to my mechanic and the computer code reads a egr valve problem.

My question is, is there a way to "clean" the egr valve and reset the code, just long enough for the car to pass emissions? In Ca. if a check engine light is on, it will automatically fail the smog test, and you need a valid smog cert. to register/change title.

I plan to make the repairs my mechanic suggests, but I only have one more day to get this thing registered without paying penalties.

Any suggestions on first, how to clean the egr valve and solenoid and second, reset the check engine code?

Thanks in advance!

Yep, with any cleaner.

Clean the valve, check the vacuum control lines, reset the ECU.
