Replacing Parking Light

Recommended Posts

I'm going to assume the daytime running light is the one in question here, marked in yellow. As with virtually every other bulb in a Lexus, turn the socket counterclockwise and pull out to remove. I used a #194 lamp which works but is not as bright as the W5W specified. Space it tight and the wire is short. I hope you have small hands!

That's not the DRL, it's the smaller bulb that lights up when you turn on your headlighs. Remember, the DRL is just the highbeams running at a lower intensity. The bulb on the driver side is harder to take out and put in, just have patience. But like they said it's like most of the lights on your car, just turn and pull out.

Well that is a matter of opinion. In 1998 GSxxx Lexii intended for delivery to the USA, the headlights do not light at any intensity when the switch is in the "parking lights" position or in "Auto" mode when the outside light level is too bright. The small bulbs in the highbeam housings effectively function as DRL's. Technically, they are known as position lamps; primarially used in localities (europe for instance) where the streets are well lit and driving with lights on at night is prohibited. Only cars intended for Canada (1998) were equipped with true half-bright DRL functionality.

Just did this on my 2002 GS300. It doesn't look like you can get to this light on the driver's side, but you really can. I had looked at taking the assemble apart, but that would have been really complicated.

Like the other post said, it is really tight. BTW, the replacement bulb was EiKO 194 at the parts store. The parts catalog called it a 'driving' light.

Can somebody tell me how to replace said bulbs in above diagram as outlined in yellow? My turn signal bulbs are fine. It is the ones that come on with the headlights that are burned out. I am not sure which ones to access and how to remove them from under the hood.

Thanks.
