98ES 300 Nakamichi stereo just went dead in the strangest way. Have checked the Radio 1 & 2 fuses and they are OKAY. Symptom was the radio was working fine, then I noticed I could not adjust any features. Stuck on station. Couldn't even turn it off or the CD on or change FM1/2. The radio stayed on even with the key removed. Then 2 hours later it was off. Now it won't come on.

I did remove the head unit from the dash and all wiring looks ok. While plugging connectors back in, unit started working again. But when I put it back into the dash, same no-op symptom above happen. Unit is not working again.

This may be related to a prior problem I had with the accessory 12V system. I had a car phone adapter which shorted out and blew those fuses. But the redio fuses are/were fine and the accessory circuits (12V, remote mirrors, etc) work fine after the fuses replaced.

Welcome suggestions. Wondering if it may be the amplifier behind the CD changer. That is a bug to remove AND find a replacement unit. How to tell if it is the amplifier?
