  1. Lexus of Bellevue. Actually, I miss-spoke. My wife corrected me. They only allowed us to put the down payment on the VISA, up to our credit limit (which is no where close to the total price). But it did get us 2% back on the down. Sorry about that. She handled the transaction. :D
  2. Advise on use of credit cards: Only charge for things that you can pay for immediately when the statement is due. Forget about "minimum" payments. That's the way to get into BIG trouble. If you have a BIG purchase, figure out how to switch the payments over to more interest friendly vehicles BEFORE you purchase. I actually buy all my Lexus cars using credit cards, because we get a cash back and travel miles. 2% back on a $48k purchase is pretty neat - almost a grand. Then we pay it off on the first statement. Free money or benies that way. So, use your credit wisely. Build a good history by PAYING on time. That is the real key. A late payment is death to good credit.
  3. Question on MOTORVAC versus BG Products flush (BK44K).... Are both about the same in removing carbon from the induction system? For 98ES300 getting ready for 90k maintenance, I looked into availability of the MOTORVAC in the eastside seattle area. No one does it in my immediate area, BUT some said they use the BG Products cleaning system to decarbonize the induction system and it works wonders. So, is it better to travel a little, through Seattle traffic, to get the MOTORVAC cleaning or is the local BG Product flush just as good? Search has turned up people claiming the BG44K product is good and that is used as part of the BG cleaning process. Both cost about the same (~$130). But it seems that the rage is all for the MOTORVAC process.
  4. I thought I did a good search of the site before I posted the new link. I have read all about the gas cap and the EFI fuse reset. I've had the cap tested, it's ok, the EFI fuse reset works, but I get the code again within a few hours time. So, I'm really thinking it truly is either the KS2 wiring is loose or broken or the sensor itself is kaput. That's why I posted the new link. I hate getting bashed on the head. I thought I researched it pretty well.
  5. 98ES300 - Have the P0330 code (KS 2 Circuit) indicating the knock sensor is faulty. Since this is located under the intake manifold, and the repair estimates range from $600 to $800, wondering if this is something a relatively handing person can attempt to replace on their own? The sensors can be purchased from around $160 (pricey little things - aren't they). If it's too much hassle, requires special tools, then forget it. If I do have it replaced, are there any other maintenance items that should be serviced while they do the KS2 replacement?
  6. I found a really helpful website with color photos on how to remove stereos and amps from LEXUS cars. I had to do this for my 98ES300 Nakamichi head unit. It's in the shop now for a power circuit fault. Anyway, the website is www.carstereohelp.com. I found it to be a very useful information source. :)
  7. 98ES 300 Nakamichi stereo just went dead in the strangest way. Have checked the Radio 1 & 2 fuses and they are OKAY. Symptom was the radio was working fine, then I noticed I could not adjust any features. Stuck on station. Couldn't even turn it off or the CD on or change FM1/2. The radio stayed on even with the key removed. Then 2 hours later it was off. Now it won't come on. I did remove the head unit from the dash and all wiring looks ok. While plugging connectors back in, unit started working again. But when I put it back into the dash, same no-op symptom above happen. Unit is not working again. This may be related to a prior problem I had with the accessory 12V system. I had a car phone adapter which shorted out and blew those fuses. But the redio fuses are/were fine and the accessory circuits (12V, remote mirrors, etc) work fine after the fuses replaced. Welcome suggestions. Wondering if it may be the amplifier behind the CD changer. That is a bug to remove AND find a replacement unit. How to tell if it is the amplifier?
