akewlguy
Hey ladies and gents.. Seems all gents and no ladies.. Anyway.. What is the best way to sand rotors? Or buy new? Mine look okay but the round part is rusted. So I either need to take it apart and use a sander? Maybe I could take off tires and give it the gas with some sandpaper. :) Maybe 1000 grit..? SRK
There is no need to sand the rotors. Using the brakes will remove the rust. In any event you will be unable to get to the back side of the rotor unless you remove the caliper and pads. If the rust is that from years of sitting, then have the rotors turned to remove it, but normally just using the brakes will clean them up. If you are talking about the hub of the rotor, then just paint it with high temp engine enamel and be done with it. It affects nothing for it to be rusted though. akewlguy
Thanks. I know it effects nothing and I was talking about the hub, but it looks not to good. Obviously when I paint I first have to sand? Cheers to LEXUS..
SRK
You can scuff the hub with a scotchbrite pad, and then wipe it with lacquer thinner before painting. It should last a good long time prepared that way.
