Sc400 Wood Trim Removal?

BSB

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I've searched the forums, but I haven't been able to find the information I'm looking for; I apologize if this has already been posted.

Anyway, the wood trim on the doors and dash of my 1997 SC400 has begun to show cracks and small chips in the clear finish on the trim. None of the cracks or chips are due to impacts or other abuse; they all seem to have been caused by thermal cycling or by exposure to sunlight.

I'm considering removing and refinishing the trim, but it's not immediately clear how the trim is uninstalled. Can anyone give me guidance on how to properly uninstall and reinstall the trim?

Also, has anyone been successful in filling small chips and cracks in the trim without removing it? Perhaps thinned polyurethane or something similar?

Thanks,

Ben
