Bubbles Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 I was wondering if there are any good ignition wires out there. This is for the sc300's 2jz-ge's motor. I've searched the forums and only a few discussions came about. I found these Nology "HOT wires" and I also ran into these Magnecore ignition wire website and they say their product is realistically better. I also heard of NGK ignition wires. I'm not too sure which product(s) actually improve performance, but post something if you've tried aftermarket ignition wires. It might be true that the performance gains from an ignition wire aren't the best hp/$ value, but then again I've been reading a ton of posts on exhausts and intakes and how they give you "10-15" extra horsepower. But the thing is that the dynometer is used when the car is standing still and the graphs also show a performance loss under 3500 rpm and an increase at the higher rpms. So unless you like revving 1st and 2nd gear all the way up to 59 mph with that added boost in speed and sound, I'd think ignition wires are a good deal.
AWJ Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 I like Magnecor wires. But I don't have them on my SC. I run a stock ignition set-up. You only need the big sheilded wires if you are running an amplfied multi discharge capacitive induction system like MSD or any of the others. Just putting those expensive wires will not help anything. I'm running a "hot" ignition on my honda - and I'll tell you it doesn't do much but slightly increase response - (very slightly) - and it helps fuel mileage during normal driving. An upgraded ignition should follow heavy upgrades along the lines of Nitrous Oxide Systems or forced induction. It is pointless on stock compression intake/header/exhaust cars. I learned this the hard way. ALthough I did plan to go turbo or n^2o on the honda - just never did.... yet.
toxdoc1947 Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 I bought Lexus wires from a Lexus dealer in California - wires and shipping were <$100.00 Installed them myself - instructions are on the net. Turned out to take about 3 hours but was really a piece of cake. Next time, I bet I can do them in an hour.
