ghaun
Hello, I'm new to this board and thought that I would ask my first question here. Would anybody know if a '98 Upper Control Arm is the same as a '94. I know that the part numbers are different, but many times manufacturers use a different part number, when there is only a slight change. It seems kind of ignorant, in my opinion, to have a ball joint permanently fixed to a control arm. Unless, of course, you want to make more money:) Also, does anybody know of a good source for lower ball joints, as well as the upper control arm. Thanks! GuyTelefunken
Good automotive machine shops can sometimes press out the old ball joints and replace them. The price for the lower isn't bad at the dealer, about $80.00 per side or Here! In Toyota speak, different numbers are different parts. I do agree with you about having the ball joints part of the associated control arm. There are various reasons behind this. One of which is safety. If you replace the ball joint improperly (the wrong position, or not completely flush with the socket) the effects can be disasterous. BMW's are nice like this. The balls are to be oriented a certain way and they can be rotated 360 degrees. Toyota (as well as many other manufacturers both foreign and domestic) may have figured, make it an assembly and we won't have to worry about improper replacement. ghaun
Has anybody heard of a place to get the press-fit ball joint for the upper control arm? I'm a little frustrated with having to replace an entire arm, because of a ball joint. Thanks!
