BillH2
Apparently either I am doing something wrong attempting to program a couple of additonal keys, or something else is going on. I have a single black key which when inserted in the ignition turns the security light off immediately. I also have a valet key (Gray) that when inserted turns off the secutiry light within a few seconds. Both key will start the car. The procedure is to insert the master key, press the accelerator five times, next press the brake petal six times. Remove the master key and insert the key to be programmed. After one minute, the security light stops flashing and the key is programmed. The locksmith who made both keys did this, after an hour of it not working gave up. Both keys will open the doors and trunk. I took it home and tried the same thing. I went throught the procedure to erase the keys, but it still refuses to recognize the new keys. Anyone had any success doing this? What am I doing wrong? I was under the impression that the black key, if will start the car is always the master key?? I did a serch but could find nothing pertaining to a 2001 GS430. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
GuyTelefunken
Search is your friend. Try the procedure for the '99. Look Here When the simple procedure doesn't work, you can use this handy flowchart! It seems as though the simple method only works on a new ECU, which comes in automatic registration mode.

I think that is the procedure to program the remote to open the doors and trunk, which we did. Getting the transponder to enable engine start seems to be a whole different kettle of fish. Has anyone actually bought the Lexus card for the OTC tester? I am beginning to think it would be a worth while investment. Thanks again Bill
GuyTelefunken
I misread your question. Sorry, I was in a hurry. Your are correct. The procedure above if for registering the transmitter portion of the key.
Melissa2
Bill, If you click on the original link ("Look Here") and look for the file "regpro.pdf", it has the instruction for programming the transponder. I've done this and can verify that it works for me. I am still unable to register the transmitter (for opening the door and trunk). Could you please give me the instruction you used to register your transmitter? Much thanks, Melissa Search is your friend.
