Automatic Climate Control

Recommended Posts

Could someone explain to me how the auto climate control works. Especially when the outside temp is cool enough that the air conditioner is not needed, but not cold enough to completely shut down the compressor. When the system blends warm air with cool, does that cause the compressor run more or less?

Temperature alone does not control the compressor. It is also based on the percentage of humidity in the cabin. The system is always blending warm and cold air, except in max-cold mode.

If I may assume where this is going, don't bother worring too much about when the compressor is on or not. Besides, the compressor ratio is variable, i.e. it can make a little cold or a lot as needed. The gas mileage will not be vastly improved if the compressor were not to run. As well, the windows will always be apt to fogging and you and your passengers will not be as comfortable as you could be.
