A/C intermittent

Aloha folks, my A/C  after running well will not come back on after shut off for a 1/2 hour or so. The other day, it came on after 10-15 min. If I wait several hours it comes on fine.  The mechanic mentioned several possible problems, one of which was low on Freon. I have had no trouble adding Freon to my Ford but this is a Lexus and am a little shy. Do you think it is worth a try or a poor diagnosis?

It does sound like the compressor may be overheating and then restarting after it cools down so perhaps it is low on freon. I believe most AC systems are made and refilled the same way, just Google your make and model for instructions. Good luck Ed.

Thanks VP I added a small can and it works. I will see how long it holds.

Glad to hear Ed. It was the cheapest option to try and you might have  a small leak so see  how long it lasts. I think some of those refill cans may have  a leak sealant in them so worst case might have to add some more in a few months. Regards.
