Having a lot of problems with 2J swap, into Cressida.

'94 GS300 2J, into '91 cressida. Engine has intake and header, that's it. It fires up quick, but after a little while it starts running rich and high idle. The TPS is not exactly where is should be. If we rotate it ccw, it runs leaner and smoother, but it doesn't seem to rev up good.When  it does, it sputters and we get black smoke. We've swapped out TPS, IAC, checked timing, new plugs, different O2 sensors,FPR, I installed Walbro 255L pump and it seemed to get very slightly worse. We hook up a check engine light and do the terminal jump, to access codes, but the light just stays on,it never blinks. i don't see any loose hoses.. I've even sprayed starting fluid around to check for leaks and nothing. WTF is going on? Is there any other way to check for codes?
