  1. i recently traded in my 2001 RX300 for a 2005 RX330 and was extremely pleased to discover the 330 had a much more "normal" turning radius for a car of its size. Agreed, the RX300 was like a backhoe, just ridiculous the number of three-point turns I had to make over the years. All gone now!:)

  2. im considering this car and I'm wondering if the bluetooth audio emanates from the main audio system and is subject to all the controls,eq, etc any other audio would be? I want to stream internet radio from my cell phone over bluetooth to the car's audio system, as well as using the phone features of the bluetooth system in the car.

Has anyone tried this with success? I searched the forums but couldnt find info on this specific item. Currently I do it with a tape adapter in my 2001 RX300 but I long for a wireless solution.

    Thanks in advance!

    John in LA

  3. RX300 is very iPod friendly...

I use one of these IPOD skins made of injected rubber:

    And it fits great here:

The grip is remarkable, it has never once budged from that position even during the sharpest of cornering. About the only thing that affects it is when the car gets inverted. :)

I also run a cigarette-socket charger for the iPod from the central consoles rear socket, under the drivers seat for in-car charging. Fairly invisible but very convenient.

  4. Check out my amazing IPOD mounting job!

Seriously, with the rubber skin on the IPOD, it has never once budged from that position even during the sharpest of cornering. About the only thing that affects it is when the car gets turned upside down.

As far as the direct AUX line goes, IMHO its not worth the effort.

Either use a tape converter (the sound is not going to be too much better hardwired in anyway)

or use an FM transmitter like this:

  5. Hi all,

Im trying to set the maintenance records on the maintenance page of the in-dash system in my 2001 RX300.

But it seems to think its 2005 or something, because if I try and enter an oil-change date (for example) of Nov 10, 2004 (just to prove the point), I get a message saying "Date has already passed" and I cant get any further.

Is there a way to program the correct date into the RX 300 in-dash system?

    thanks!

PS:No, Im not talking about the LED clock :)

  6. i get something similair on my 2001 RX300...in the mornings or when its first started, theres an additional high pitched whirring in the engine noise. It goes away after 15 minutes. I think someone told me once it was the ABS running self-diagnostics or something and not to worry about it. But Id love to know for sure....??

  7. when i start my car early in the morning, there's noise sounds like hummingbird. however, it went away after 15 minutes. it happens when i drive home after work. the dearler told me it is the friction of the belt which is not a major problem. is there anything on the market that can make it go away? i'm so embarrassing every time i start my car in the parking lot.

    what year/model is it?

  8. I'd like to plug Dr. Vinyl, a *MOBILE* repair service in the L.A. Westside area for cuts, burns, scrapes, punctures, etc in automobile leather and vinyl.

They did a really quite amazing job on my 2001 RX300, which had cat claw puncture marks, a cigarette burn, marker pen, and a couple of scrapes on the tan leather seats and doors. If youve ever tried to use that "leather & vinyl fix-it kit" advertised on latenite TV you know how difficult it can be to not only match the color, but even get the texture and blending in the ballpark, much less an accurate match.

Dr. Vinyl did all the above repairs, in my driveway, in a little over an hour for $65.00.

Maybe thats on the pricey side, but the results were so good my wife couldnt even tell where the fixes were made, much less the extent of the original damage. So, I felt it was money well spent, and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for similair services in the greater Westside L.A. area. They are polite and professional and the work is remarkably good.

  9. To answer the original question, there have been at least two threads I've seen regarding the transmission in the month or so I've been on this board - they've just aged off.

Thanks to those more knowledgeable members for enlightening us on some of the technical details. It's a shame that a car that is practically perfect could have this one potentially major flaw. Like dating a supermodel who it turns out used to be a guy or something. Not that I would know about that personally... :P

    hah hah :D

  10. I don't have any of the noises with the front instrumentation or panel that you mentioned. The noise you get when roll down the back windows will go away if you roll down the front windows just a bit. I have always had this problem with any four door car I have had. I am sure it has to do with the air pressure/circulation, but I am no engineer, so beyond that I can't explain it.

I bought the car in the spring and the noise with the sunroof didn't come up till summer hit along with our heat and humidity.

    Thanks for your response.

Theres a thread all about this here

  11. So Im driving from San Diego to LA the other day and accidentally put the back windows all the way down going about 70 on the freeway.

Suddenly this really amazingly weird and very loud low frequency throbbing begins, like there is some harmonic resonance that is making the whole car into some kind of subsonic woofer. I almost lost control, it was so unexpected. I couldnt even figure out what it was at first, but finally when I closed the rear windows it stopped.

I then began experimenting a little..it doesnt happen if both front and rear windows are open, just rear and nothing else. Sunroof must be closed too. It seems to really kick in over 50mph. I guess its some kind of sympathetic vibration caused by the aerodynamics or vaccum of the car when only the back windows are open..????

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? or could try it? Im curious if its just my car or what....it doesnt really bother me (unless its shaking things apart) but it was certainly weird.
