  1. I recently removed the side mirror glass to install LED mirror covers. Don't break the glass! There are 3 connectors: one for the dimming feature (blue arrow), two for the heater wires (yellow arrow). There are 4 plastic clips (red arrows) and white paste holding the mirror to the motor mounts inside. Adjust the mirror all the way up with the controls, then pry from the bottom (with your fingers) to release the glass from the 2 white plastic clips on the bottom. It will hang by the 2 top hinge-style clips, then you can swing it out from the bottom and unhook the top clips. Then remove the connectors and do the reverse for the new glass. Be sure the two metal leaf springs go into their slots when reinstalling. It took some manipulation of the mirror angle to get this right. Hopefully your new glass has the same connectors as the original glass.

Thank you so much. This has been very useful.

    Regards.

  2. Hi Friends,

Since I have no access to electricity in my garage, I would buy an AC / DC power inverter to plug in my RX400 H cigar lighter and my vacuum cleaner or electric drill to the other end. (I hope I am clear enough, English is not my mother tongue ...) How powerful such a converter from 12 V to 110V or 220 V, can I use without danger please? I saw some converters that go up to 2000 watts but I'm not sure I can use it safely. ??

    Thank you.

Your lighter outlet is only good to 10Amp at 12Volt or 120Watts. At 120Volts AC you only have 1Amp of capability from the car. (Power: watts = volts x amps)

Any decent drill or vacuum will require more power than that... maybe a 1Amp dremmele tool or a dust buster car vac but thats about it.

DC to AC inverters cannot manufacture power only convert it from one form to another... sorry.

BTW, if you do plan to run AC appliances from you car with an inverter, be aware that you will need to leave the car in READY state so the engine can fire when needed (ventilation is key here :chairshot: ). If you run anything off of the car when the ignition is in ACC or ON, then you are only using the tiny 12V battery and that will last about 20 min before its dead.

    **********************************************

Thank you so much. You made this perfectly clear for me.

But tell me... what if instead of using the lighter outlet, I connect the DC Inverter directly to the car battery ? would it be the same problem please ???

The problem would be the same... that will not change the physics of it, just bypasses the 10A fuse.

Am I stupid... sorry but I was reading some spec details and saw that they mention a 110 volts outlet plug in the back of the car... Could'nt I use that to plug any vacuum cleaner or else ?

  5. Just traded my '06 RX400h for a '10 RX350 because acceleration was smoother and felt better. While its great to save gas, the 400h has some idiosyncrasies. I did drive the new 450h before making my decision. Sorry to say I felt like I was driving in my old car. Overall, I'm really impressed with the difference and the big jump in technology in the RX 350. Even the NAV and tech changes since my '08 IS are significant. What a pleasure to transfer my contacts from my iPhone. While far from perfect at least Lexus is going in the right direction.

I'm afraid you have been confusing 350 - 400 - and 450 or alternatively confusing water with tequila, or maybe both..

    lol.. ;-))cheers.gif

  6. I'd say the Rx400h works in the snow as often as a FWD car does. When a FWD car would just spin out (going nowhere), the Rx400h just sits there. So they're about equal. I'm not saying the Rx400h is unsafe in the snow, you should just know there may be times when you're literally STUCK in the middle of a minor incline...

And also, the title of this thread indicates you're looking at a 2006... but in your explanation you state 2007, so which year is the one you're looking at? Can you find the manufacture date? There's a black sticker on the drivers side center door jam that will have a date at the top right, for example: 11/07- which indicates the car is a 2008 manufactured in November of 2007.

I'm only asking because i know some of the 2006 Rx400h's were pre-ordered as early as late 2004, arriving in 2005 as a 2006 model. So a 2006 may have actually been manufactured in 2004 or 2005, making it a lot older than it seems. Just one thing you may want to check, as two seemingly identical 2006 Rx400h's may have been made more than a year apart (and in this case, you'd want the newer one).

And in your last post, did you state the price is $30,000?? This seems VERY high for a 2006, and even still high for a 2007.

The listing says it is a 2006 Lexus RX400h. I am not sure about the manufacture date but I can certainly get that information from the dealership. It is a certified Lexus RX400h and it has Navigation, rear view camera, Mark Levinson, Premium wheels, etc. The price is just under $30,000 :)

After listening to everyone's advice we also started looking at the RX350s. We certainly would like a car that handles well in the snow. Thanks!

    Ok Sammycat,

I live in Switzerland and we know what snow means. The RX400H is just the best SUV I have had so far and I'm 60 years old and have driven all kind of range rovers, jeeps, bmw, subarus, etc..etc..

So just go and get it ! It is true the winter tires type will be important though.

    cheers.

  7. Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has a problem with the location of the radio volume/ON/OFF knob. Every morning i get to school (i'm a college student) a good half hour early and take a "wake-up" nap sitting in my car. I slouch in the seat (getting relaxed) and listen to my favorite radio morning show, but often get interrupted by my knee accidentally hitting the radio knob to OFF. The knob is located in such a way that it's in line with your knee, so just a little tap and POOF! It's OFF...

Has anyone had this happen to them before? :geek:

Cduluk, if it wasn't you posting this, I would think of a joke but since I know you're damn serious when talking Lexus, I will just say this : I'm quite tall 187 cm and it never happened to me. If you were a girl I would insist for a date, you must have long legs... ;-)

  8. Looking at picking up a pair. What color did you guys get and what color interior do you have? I have the tan/beige interior. I've read the tan mats are actually much darker than pictured on their website and don't match the interior well. Now leaning towards black.

    Thanks

I guess this doesn't help you much but for what it's worth, mine are light grey on a light grey interior. They fully protect but altogether so well integrate that I no longer notice they are there..

    enjoy!

  9. You mean the console between the front seats? There's a handle you need to press after opening the cupholder cover (the cover with the chrome sliver). Hard to explain, but you'll find it... it's hidden, under the top. Just press and pull in whichever direction you want. <_<

    Hello Cduluk,

Thank you for always being readily and kindly available on all issues. I'll let you know if I can't find that handle..

    Cheers

    :)

  10. Well I picked these up from Rajuthan (his 400h was written off by his insurance company - Thanks by the way Rajuthan). I gotta say, I'm impressed with these babies. Looks like they'd hold a few litres of water before overflowing - perfect for snow. They fit very well, and the rear mat even has a section that is 'sunken' for lack of a better word, that allows the center console between the front seats to still slide backward if needed. Very cool, highly recommended.

    Hey Lemon,

I ordered them as well and have been using them for the last three weeks. They are just great, I agree. Just a bit expensive to bring to Switzerland via their UK partner..

You mention the central console can be moved? I have never tried it but is there a switch or some lever to slide it backward please? Can you tell me how to do that? :)

  11. Tomorrow or next day at latest I will report on daylight gauges appearance. I haven't had a chance to drive in daylight yet and my wife who usually uses the car during the day, still hasn't noticed the color change... NO, she isn't blond... :D

    Ok, as I promised...

To be honest I would say that if I could have the gauges slightly brighter on daylight conditions, it would be perfect. Nonetheless, I found that altogether, the set-up is satisfactory and I intend to keep it permanently.

    Best to all! :)

  12. Well the economy has hurt everyone here, but I seriously doubt that Weathetech is out of business. I have seen their operation and they seem to do very well. And they still have multi-page ads in major car magazines.

    Tom

Thank you. I went on their UK site and ordered just what I needed. Only difference is prices are the same but in British pounds rather than us$... I guess that must be part of Europe's charm.. :)

  13. It looks FABULOUS Agosin! $10? Wow, I thought I spent a lot at $2.49! This is the best mod for the buck ever! Way to go...looks nice...oh, and it will look great in the daytime as well. Rey in LA

    Thanks for your support Rey.

I had a great time in LA about 30 years ago.. I was supposed to spend three weeks and I stayed 6 months. I must say I was at a friends house in Malibu and life was real sweet at the time... Have you ever seen a house on the beach with blue turquoise tiles covering it's roof when walking along the ocean a bit north of Malibu? Well that was the place..

    Best !

Yes, I love LA! I live in a really nice area, up high and can see a good distance from up here...thanks and let me know if you are ever out this way. Oh, did your gauges look ok in the day? toodles, Rey

  14. If you're not dead set on the factory mats, consider WeatherTech Digital Fit Floor Liners

    http://www.weathertech.com/store/mvproduct...7&Year=2006

These things offer complete (you can't even see any carpet) protection and, as is obvious from the pictures, can't get stuck over the gas pedal.

Just as an aside, isn't it funny that when cars came with rubber floors, we wanted carpeted mats - now cars come with carpeted floors and we want rubber mats.

Also, I think Toyota is now admitting that there might be a 'wee' problem with accelerators, as well as the mat problem.

    Hi Lemon,

Since I liked those mats from weathertech, very much, and they mention on their site that they would ship overseas as long as potential buyers contact them by email to get shipment costs, I did just that via their link but I am getting no reply whatsoever... Are you aware that they would be closed or bankrupted or anything else maybe ?

    Thank you in advance. Cheers.

  16. Ok dear Members !! :)

    I made it...

Since I tried a few different blue acetates in tone and size before reaching satisfactory appearance (although not yet tested in daylight..), I have to admit I spent a total of 10$ on this whole mod.. But now that I found what I believe is the right acetate type and color, I could set 4 dashboards with 5 bucks of acetate. I know, Switzerland is expensive.. Anyway, here are the pics for your perusal. Enjoy!

  17. This is great. Seven pages on a $0.97 mod. I love it.

Just as an aside, what's with the advertising links? I don't remember them being here before. Like in the post above - "if I were you" is highlighted in green and takes me to some stupid ad...

I had the same phenomenon yesterday on one of RXREY posts on the word "extrusion" and did not realize it was linked to ads since I did not open the link.. thought it was just a spell checker highlight..

  18. I still don't remember having four snaps...I don;t want to pull out the bezel to see but maybe someone else will confirm.

Rey, the mechanics probability is for 4 clips to avoid undue extrusion or vibrations so if I were you, I'd take it as almost certain but you won't know for sure until you peek below the kimono, will you ..lol

Mine is clearly 4 clips as shown on the pic and soon I hope to post the final work..

    Best.

  19. Although not yet in possession of the proper acetate, I could not resist but pull that outer bezer to peek below there... Well the good news is I have been able to take it off without damaging any of the 4 clips. Actually, you can check some pictures I post here of the bezer's back and I think the clips are different from the US model, maybe much easier to pull off. I will report again after I find and apply the ideal blue acetate or if pauljcl travels to Switzerland I'd be grateful if he carries a sample with him ;-))

    Best to all.

Is the white on your clips metal or plastic. They look a little different than mine were... maybe they 'improved' the RX400H over the Rx350 I have...

Send me your address... I'll mail you a cut-out of the acetate. Just let me know is the 14" length I measured for me is sufficient. [You normally can pick it up at an art material store - maybe a call to Brachard (?) - papeterie rue de la Corraterie or the papeterie near the Richmond would help? Photo 'gel' (like for filters or for overhead projectors) would also work fine. Anyway, I have lots of it...

he.. he.. I went to Brachard where I found blue acetates format A4 which I'm afraid are just a bit too short when turned landscape but I called Beaux-Arts & Perrier at bd Helvétique and they told me they have the blue 60/50cm size which should be more than large enough. So now I will have an "excuse" for staying in the garage tonight... keep ya posted!

Well the white is actually yellow and it is plastic. That's probably why I could pull it out smoothly. 14 inches seem perfect. I haven't checked Brachard yet, I'll go tonight if I can get out of work early enough.. Let you know. Cheers.
