  1. I purchased a used engine for my '91 Ls400, had it installed, no problems.

After a few days it started knocking (loudly) on the drivers side. So I took a chance and drove the car back to the shop.

Got there and guess what? NO KNOCKING. The mechanic said it may be the lifters.

Drove home, Knocking again. Called the mechanic back. He said, if it was something wrong with the engine it would knock all the time.

I don't think it's the lifters because the knocking is too loud. Oil level has remained consistent.

The intensity/loudness of the knocking does not change when you increase the rpm of the motor.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  2. I purchased a '91 LS400 about a year ago. The climate control display was not working. I read all the post and figured someday I'll send it to Mikado. Today to my surprise I started the car and it was working. Fully illuminated with the temp. and the time. I couldn't believe it! Unfortunately, my happiness didn't last long. About 10 minutes later it started to fade.

My question is do I still need to send it in or could it be something else wrong.

Maybe something that would cause an intermittent problem. (ie. connnection)

  3. I have a 1991 Lexus Ls 400. The temperature gauge jumps around. It starts at normal then jumps all the way to high. It'll stay on high for awhile then come back to normal. It does this continuously while driving. I've replaced the Temp switch, radiator (needed replacing anyway), and thermostat and it didn't correct the problem.

The check engine/trac off light is also on. I had the code read and it's code 25 (lean). I think this code also have something to do with the temp sensor.

The car was running pretty good, so I wasn't going to worry about it. Until yesterday, It fell dead while I was waiting at the Wendys drive thru window. I could not restart the car. I opened the hood and could smell coolant. I let the car sit/cool for about 30 minutes then it started.

Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas on how to correct the problem?

    Thanks
