  1. There isn't a recall on this but Lexus/Toyota knows all about it. They will replace the evaporator core (i believe) because there is a coating on it that is flaking off and blowing through your entire car.

Demand they do a full detail of the inside of the vehicle including carpet shampooing and cleaning out all your air vents. I had major breathing problems from this dust that completely disapearred once Lexus made the fix and cleaned the vehicle but they wouldn't take responsibility for any of my medical bills.

Also make sure they change the cabin filter as it will more than likely be full of the white dust.

  2. The dealer will never recommend adding an auto start unless it's something they offer and make money on. I have to admit I was a little worried in the beginning because of the latest one being installed on a hybrid but as long as the person installing it knows what they are doing you should be fine. I LOVE having auto start in the winter and the summer!

  3. I agree that this is just another thing they are covering up. I wrote a couple letters to Toyota/Lexus and they would not even acknowledge that owners needed to be notified. I also had the coughing when in the car and racked up quite a few medical bills until I learned of the problem, went to my dealer and insisted they replace the heater core. Haven't had a problem since but still feel that there are others out there having breathing problems and they have no idea it's coming from something inside their car. I have some info at home that I collected back when I wrote them, including a materials handling safety sheet (or something like that) that I will post if I can find. Was initially told the particles were one thing and when I sent the sheet to them they then changed their story to say it was something else.

  4. Is this dust just something that comes about when the heat comes on or does it happen with the A/C, too?

We barely use the heat here in AZ but I used it last week and saw the white dust. I just purchased this car last month so I didn't know about this problem until I came here to read the threads. Anyway, if this is something that only happens when the heat comes on, I may just skip on the repair. If it happens while using the A/C, which I use 9 months out of the year, than I probably need to get it fixed!

I only had the problem when the heat was being used. So far this winter no problems after having the heater core replaced.

  5. My 07 RX350 just hit 25000 miles, and plan to take it back to dealer for oil change and service. They told me it will be $200 something for the service including oil/filter change, tire rotation, check brake...etc.

Is this too expensive? If 25000mile cost $200 something, I cannot image how much it will cost when I do 30000 mile maintenance!? :(

I just made an appointment for the 25000 miles service and the lexus dealers price is $137.00

  6. Cabin filter has nothing to do with it and there isn't any odor. They need to replace part of the heating unit. I had medical issues that resolved immediately after having this taken care of. Lexus still won't accept any responsibility beyond doing the fix and won't respond to my questioning why there hasn't been a recall. I know that everyone reacts differently to irritants but I also know what I went through and feel people should be notified. In any case, bring it in and have them replace the part, clean out all the vents and thoroughly vacuum/clean the interior.

  7. I just discovered the same problem after having an emergency room visit, doctors visits, inhalers and what was thought to be an unexplainable start of Asthma. I'm surprised there aren't more recent posts on this subject. I had the evaporator core replaced (with the new improved that won't flake), the ducts and vents cleaned and the carpets shampooed. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't had the breathing problem I was having. Just wondering if anyone sent medical bills to Lexus to be reimbursed for expenses incurred due to this problem? Lexus is very aware of this problem but says it only happens in some cars.

  8. I have the answer for the white flake issue.

I had this occuring very recently.

Due to my kids having Asthma, I took the issue very seriously and took the car in the same day I noticed it.

The dealer after a few days of reluctance and getting the okay from me to tear the car apart, found that the culprit was the evaporator core anti-bacterial coating flaking off.

This car is under warranty and they fixed this issue and fully detailed the car.
