  1. Need to replace my tires on a 2002 SC 430. Thinking about going to non-RFT. Anyone using non-RFTs? If so, happy with your choice of manufacturer and decision to go non-RFT? Manufacturer name? Anyone using less than the "Z" rated tires recommended by Lexus?

Any reply yet? I'm in the same boat with my 2005.

    No. Not yet.

    Hi Guys!

I've got my SC430 since March 2001, so I had time to test some tires, and here is my take on that subject.

Run flat tires were total mismatch for that car, so I changed them as soon as I could. My first set after run flat tires were Kumo. They were actually not bad. Then, I switched to Yokohama AVS ES100. I think they are a very good match for this car, and, since I am a cheapscape, I am happy that they don't cost arm and a leg. You must keep in mind though that I live in Southern California, and winter conditions as you know them are not the factor. I think that Sumitomo HTR Z2 may also be a good choice, but I haven't tried them yet. They are so inexpensive that it scares me. Since you are thinking about changing tires, you may want to change the cumber of the rear wheels. The original setting is too much of a negative angle for a cruiser because that is what the SC430 really is. No, I am not complaining, I am just realistic. I actually love my car. I also bought a 12V portable compressor, a fix a flat kit, and a can of tire repair in case I get a flat. I have had this car for almost six years now and I didn't get even one flat tire yet. I guess I must be lucky. In addition, I bought an extra set of wheels on ebay, and I keep one of those wheels with a tire on it in my garage. Enjoy your car.

Is there anything that has to be done with the tire pressure sensors?

Just don't break them when they change the tires!!! Run Flats are a bit*h to get off the rims and you can sometimes break the sensors. $120 to replace one. BTW, they are battery powered and will eventually need to be replaced anyway. When that time comes for me I plan on disconnecting the system. I refuse to spend $500 on something just to essxentially replace the battery.

  2. I went with Continental Conit's Extreme Contacts and I love them!!! I got them from tire rack and had them installed locally. The difference in ride quality is amazing. I bought a 12V portble compressor, a fix a flat kit and a can of tire repair in case I get a flat. So far so good. The run flats blow!!!!

  3. I put on a set of regular (non-run flat) snow tires without a set of sensors. The low pressure light comes on but does not beep. A piece of balck tape can cover that up. When you put your regular tires back on, you have to go to Lexus to have them reset the system.

  4. Hm.

Only thing I can suggest is to take the motor off, manually push the window all the way up, and then put the motor back on. This would at least be a place to start to see if the problem is with the motor. If you can't push the window all the way up, then the problem is with the window itself. Check to see if the back edge is properly mounted - if it's 1/2" off, there's your problem.

  5. Open driver door, keep it open and in the unlocked position

Put original key in ignition and pull out

Lock and Unlock the doors 5 times

Close the door and open the door

Lock and Unlock the doors another 5 times

Put the Master Key in the ignition, turn it on and then off and remove from the ignition

You should hear a confirmation beep within 10 seconds and the door locks should actuate

Push the button on the new key

Close the door and open the door

Push the button again on the new key

    good luck

    Marty

  6. Can't believe I didn't find it earlier but here is an old thread that contains links I provided to threads in other forums where someone has used an external speaker with a Parrot:  http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...17417&hl=Parrot

Thanks everyone for your help! In the meantime my Parrot kit is installed and works perfectly with an external speaker. Recommended!

    Cheers

Ma$e, did you wire the speaker yourself?? If so, was it difficult. Please explain the hook up.

  7. Hi

I want to install a Parrot CK3000 Bluetooth Car Kit into my 2002 SC 430. Does any one know if the OEM stereo has the affordable ISO connectors? The car kit uses muting and the car speakers.

    Thanks

I would also like to install a Parrot CK3000 or CK3100 bluetooth unit in my 2002 SC340. I don't believe that the SC430 has ISO connectors in the back of the radio. I have contacted a few harness companies in Europe, but no luck with the SC430. Has anyone had a Parrot CK300 or 3100 installed?? If so, who did it and how???? I beleive I can find a mute wire somewhere in the radio, but how can you get the sound through the speakers? HELP!!

Don't let me down, can anybody help!!!!

  9. I have also ordered new rims (Momo Twins in silver) for my SC430, they're due in tomorrow. It may be a while before I get them put on, so I did a little PhotShopping and here they are. Let me know what you think. Be kind. I'll post some real pictures when installed.

  10. I have a 1992 SC 400.

Had it for a year with about 105k miles on it.

Since last week, the heating does not work. Ran a diagnostics, and came up with code 21.

Funny thing is that the heating works only when I turn the knob to MAX_HEAT. Even one unit below that will blow cold air.

Any suggestions on what to do would be helpful.

    Thanks

    Mohit

Code 21 is the solar sensor and most likely means it was dark when you ran the test. My car did not blow heat also. I found that by adding a little coolant to the system (even though it appeared full) made my problem go away. It's real easy to try it.

  11. OK, I decided to buy some Momo 18" Twins in Silver (not the chrome) for a total of $500 + $80 for shipping. They should be here in a few days. My tires still have a little life in them, so I may not put them on until I get my new Pirelli's P-Zero's. Take a look at my cheap and dirty PhotoShop rendition of the rims on my car.

  12. I am going to replace my SC430 18" Dunlop run flats with some 17" rims and tires. I have a 1995 SC400 that rides so much smoother than my SC430, I need to do something. I was considering just replacing the run flats with some 18" Pirelli P-Zero's, but that is still a pretty low profile tire.

By my calulations, I should replace the 245/40/18's with 245/45/17's. The speedo error will be less than 1% which is great. Just to clarify, the tire pressure sensors can be removed from the stock rims and installed on the new rims, right?? I beleive they just need to be reset from the button in the glove box.

I would appreciate any help and advice.

  13. The battery in my 2002 SC430 died.

Can someone tell me where to get an "exact" replacement for the original Panasonic 56618 that came new in the car?

    Thanks,

    LexuDon

When you say exact, do you mean the exact size or the exact O.E. battery with screw caps and everything?? The battery that comes with the SC430 is made in Japan. No U.S. battery manufacturer makes this style battery and I doubt they import them either. Even the Lexus dealer purchases their batteries from a U.S. supplier. If you just want the right battery, it is a Group 91 battery. I know Interstate brand (most likely made by JCI) carrries a Group 91.

  14. For a Lexus SC430 to have a salvage title, it must have been one hell of a wreck. I would ask for some "before" pictures to see how bad it was. To be honest, his prices are no where near low enough for a salvage title. I would be VERY careful before buying one of those.

I too am in the market for a used SC430 and am amazed at the prices that people are asking. It doesn't seem like any of them are selling because they are asking so much. Check on E-Bay for finished auctions and you will see that 95% of the cars, the reserve is not met. Seems to me if they brought the prices back down to earth, they would sell. I know I would buy one.

    Good Luck!!
