  1. THANKS A LOT. I really appreciate it!!! I don't think I have the balls, or experience, to replace it on my own though, and I found a good shop that will do it cheap. So thanks anyway though.

    No problem...

Its better to pay few bucks, than to cause more damage if You're unexperienced.

I've seen people busted clock springs while replacing rack & pinions, or twisted off stubborn steering fluid lines, or even

damaged tie rods, rubber boots, etc

Better be save than sorry, this should be fairly cheap job to do.

    GOOD LUCK :-)

  2. 95 LS400 with 150k miles. I am having a major, and very dangerous problem that I hope you can help with. After driving on the highway for a long trip, and when I get off and start to slow down / come to the first stop, my car konks out! Sometimes this happens before I come to a complete stop and Im still moving but the car has shut down. Almost got in a wreck because of this today. I put it in neutral and it starts up no problem. Put it in gear and Im on my way.

This NEVER happens when Im traveling locally, just coming off a highway trip. Is this an idle air control valve issue? Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would try two things first:

Remove the air intake up to the second butterfly & clean any black deposits behind the second butterfly.

Clean both butterfly's if You have traction control.

If that doesn't help, Your idle valves need to be replaced or believe or not EFI relay could be overheating.

Another problem could be Your ECU as well.

  3. In January my front left end was clipped by a school bus. The car was in a certified Lexus body shop for about 5 weeks. I got the car back on a Friday afternoon and within 30 minutes the Check Engine and VSC lights turned on and the display said VSC Off. I took it back to the body shop they got the lights off and ran it saying it was not wreck related. The ligths came back on 24 hours later after I picked it up. Then they stayed on for a while. The other day it turned off for a day then came back on the next day. I got Autozone to run the codes while they were on and they said P1349 and P1354. The lights are currently off but will probably come back on. I am looking for suggestions as to what is really wrong and what I need to do.

Could be many causes for those codes:

VVT system controls the intake valve timing to proper timing in response to driving condition. ECM controls Oil Control Valve (OCV) to make the intake valve timing properly, and oil pressure controlled with OCV is supplied to the VVT controller, and then VVT controller changes relative position between the camshaft and the crankshaft.

  4. One of two things causing your power steering oil to leak. First (and most likely) is power steering pump, second (also very common) rack and pinion leaking at inner tie rod seals. Used rack and pinion (with 6 months warranty) can be obtained thru www.car-parts.com for as low as $60.00 replacement takes (for me) about 1.5 hour. Power steering pump (rebuilt with 1 year warranty) can be bought at Your local auto zone for about $170.00 replacement time about 2.0 hours for that.

IMPORTANT: If Your power steering pump is leaking it will quickly destroy Your alternator as well since it is located directly below power steering pump.

Is there a tutorial on Rack and pinion replacement for a 93. Mine needs replaced and I was wondering if it's a reasonable job to do myself? What all is envolved? any info on it would be great.

Yes, there is. Here You go:

    1. Disable air bag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information .

    2. Disconnect universal joint as follows:

    1. Position front wheels facing straight ahead.

    2. Using seat belt of driver's seat, fix steering wheel so that does not turn, Fig. 29 .

    3. Place alignment marks on universal joint and control valve shaft.

    4. Loosen upper universal joint bolt and remove lower universal joint bolt, then disconnect universal joint.

    3. Disconnect tie rod end using pitman arm puller tool No. 09611, or equivalent, Figs. 30 through 34. It may be necessary to move the disc brake caliper assembly to get necessary clearance to remove the tie rod end.

    4. When connecting universal joint, set gear housing so that it matches the dimensions shown in Figs. 35 through 38, with gear housing at the center point.

    6. Align marks made during removal and connect universal joint.

    7. After inserting rotation stopper in valve housing holes, tighten union bolt.

    8. If steering wheel has been removed or moved during operation, center spiral cable.

    9. Check steering wheel center point, then check toe-in.

    10. Rearm air bag system.

    GOOD LUCK!

  5. I bet even a 90 LS400 with +250k would be nicer than a new accord! :D

The LS is on a completely different level.

    Agreed 100%

I have a 95 LS and my inlaws have 08 Camry, HYBRID

I wouldn't want their Camry for my Luxurious and quiet LS over new Camry.

It just feels the difference that camry is more like a city car while LS is an executive vehicle designed for long very comfy trips.

    Thats just my 2 cents...

  6. My friend who does some of my maintenance said my '04 LS 430 tranny has no drain plug on the bottom. Only on the side for filling apparently.

He couldn't figure out how to drain this thing and I seached the forums and Google for an answer, but none found.

Anyone here know how to properly change the transmission fluid? In particular, how to drain the old fluid?

    U don'tchange tranny fluid on 04 LS430

call the dealer, and You'll see what they'll tell ya...

  7. Does anyone know where I can get the middle console in blue for my 92 LS 400 also, the original carpet and mats for this car......the carpet on the drivers side door came off on my daughter and she did not notice it.........hate that?

I have totalled LS400 with blue interior, feel free to contact me with Your parts needs.

  8. IF someone on this board can fix things, I would rather pay them than the shop, I have plenty of space in my back yard and I dont mind getting dirty :), I have an issue with my 1990 LS400, the car will not go into gear, my friends are saying its the pumpkin, others from this board are saying halfshaft, if someone would like to come over to the house and just check it out for me I would be grateful and would not mind giving $ for your time. I rather have someone from this board come look then get ripped off at the shop :(, THANKS IN ADVANCE

When NC211 gets settled in, Im sure he would not mind coming by.

I live 1200 miles away..so not likely i can just "swing in". LOL.

AWESOME!! My wife and I are getting around on the other one for now, the 92 is still running so its all good, just have to get few things fixed, CHicago has alot of pot holes so my alignment seems to be off, and also my power steering fluid is leaking, anyone know about this problem, i keep adding every few days just to get by til the weather gets better.
