this used to happen occasionally on my 02 ES as well. It was only on one particular station. I had a friend tune to the same station in his car while parked next to me. My lost signal and his didn't. I wanted to make sure it was not the radio station.
The simple solution I found when this would happen would be to manually tune away from that station using the dial. Then tune back to that station using the dial again. Then press and hold your preset button to reprogram that station in again. This seemed to reset the preset and the intermittant signal loss stopped. For some reason just reprogramming the preset didn't do the trick. You have to manually tune away from and go back to the station. Go figure.
Give it a try.

Well, dang! Worked like a charm. Thanks so much. Sometimes, it's just the simplest things. Your fix makes sense, in a way, though I'm not sure it ever would have occurred to me.

Radio has begun intermittent signal drop on one (the one I listen to all the time, of course) FM frequency. Drop occurs at 3 to 3.5 second intervals. Does not happen on any other FM frequency. Station signal is confirmed consistent on other receivers. Start of signal drop not correlated to any other repairs or fiddling around with any other electrical components. All other components of vehicle operate just fine.
What's going on? Can it be repaired, or does it require replacement?

gbhrps is a life saver! My mechanics have been tracking this problem for 6 months. Nothing would show up in a diagnostic check. They even re-set all computer settings to factory original. They and I were going nuts. I printed out this post, took it to them and voila - fixed!
