  1. Hi there,

I am new here too, and I bought my 1997/98 ES300 last January for just $7800. It has 90k miles on it and I think it was a good deal for a rare and expensive car here in Brazil. It is a shielded car, by the way, which means that the body and glasses are bullet proof as probably a millionaire have bought it in 1997. The main problem about the shielded car is the extra weight it has, since in my case I think the car has + or - 500lb more than a regular ES300. Of course it affects mileage and parts durability (mainly suspension absorbers).

Since I bought it the car is at the mechanic shop to have some basic and essential things done, such as to have the Tbelt, fuel filter, front valve gasket, battery, and some suspension parts replaced. The interior is very new and it is black (interior and exterior). The spare tire has never been used.

I've been anxious waiting to get the car back and serviced.

    Later.

  2. i bought my 1997 es300 from the original owner 1 month ago. i read a post on here that someone needs a code to reset the radio after replacing the battery? do you even need the code on earlier models? i spoke with the original owner today and they told me they never set a code and were never even asked to when they bought the car. i even have a receipt that they gave me showing they replaced the battery at the lexus dealer about 1.5 years ago, they said the dealer didnt even mention a radio code. im just wondering for the future since i do alot of my own work is it necessary i have this code? would if the battery dies and u need a jump start, do you need the code then, it just seems like alot to go through. i called the dealer and they ran the vin number and came up with nothing.

I also just bought a 1997 ES300 one month ago here in Brazil, and when I tried to start the car for the first time the battery was dead. After a jump start I noticed that the radio worked just fine without asking for any code. So I don't know if the radio has any way to code it, but the way the radio is set it doesn't ask for any code, which is a good thing I guess. Good luck with your car!!

  3. Nah, the timing belt was only a day old. I just replaced the timing belt, water pump, idler, tensioner, thermostat, fan belts, coolant.

I bought the tbelt and water pump off ebay, and the quality must just be crap. The other parts are all name brand, and some of them genuine Toyota.

Assuming my diagnosis is right and the tbelt is snapped, then I'll replace it, and probably the water pump too since it was the same brand.

That said, HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH!! WOOOOHOOOOOO!!! :D

Thank you Toyota for a non-interference motor!!!!!!! :D

    :D

Do you remember from who you bought your timing belt on ebay??

Cause I just bought it from performance parts on ebay.
