I had the same problem and had to replace the compressor. I got it from ebay (rebuilt one of course) for about $225 which is much cheaper than any other shops around..

on my 91 LS400 ( 114K), if the engine is cold..the starting is little delayed.

Once I put the key and turn it, I need to hold it for few seconds to get the engine going. It makes sound like battery is dead..but then starts. If I start it within next couple of hours..it starts immediately. I hope this is not a starter ( or alternator?) ..anyone faced this before?

Thanks Guys....I couldnt find the Hub assembly online..but was able to find the bearings..but considering the milage and the life of these bearings..I am just not sure if it needs to be replaced.

My Mechanic says that we need to replace the whole Hub Assembly, Right Front Wheel Bearing on 91 LS400 114K miles. I notice some vibration if you sit in the paassenger sit....but other than the vibration..it drives Ok. He says its about 3 hr job if I can find the parts on internet. Any ideas??

I am having the same problem with my 91 LS400.

But for me..once I jumped it..its working till now..( touch wood !! 0

I got it checked..and they said..there is some problem with the alternator.

Battery is fine and there are no other warnings.

Not sure what exactly the problem is...If its alternator..what should we check?

So assuming that the compressor is locked up..is this is a easy fix? Would any service station do this for me..or I will have to go to the dealer?

Something really weird I came across just yesterday on my 91 LS400.

I was driving and Pushed the "auto" button to turn on the AC...my car made some rumbling scary noise and halted there. The engine died. I had turn off the AC, and re-start it again. This was repetable every time I started AC.

Have no clue on what happened suddenly?? Anyone experienced this before?

I just got a 91 LS400 (108K) and the owner told me that the rear main seal needs to be taken care of...any ideas how urgent it is and how much it will cost?
