  1. I installed a Tunnel Ram air system on my LS last weekend.....and this thing pulls like a scalded ape now at WOT...

i made my own heat shielding out of 2 inch heat resistant foam to cover all parts surrounding the filter......as well as made another 5" funnel intake routing it from behing the front grille, running beside the radiator and directly in front of the filter..with 2 inch PVC Pipe painted black, to add to the OE air scoop running on top of the rad.....so i have two direct open air inlets now......

i've punched it twice, since i put it on, and it kind of startled me......it is really unnoticeable till the car hits about 4K RPM at WOT then all hell breaks loose, its LOUD and it pulls really hard..........its really impressive, and it really feels more like a V8.. a HUGE improvement over the stock and very restrictive air box setup.

i also reset the ECU to accomodate the new system, and will probably do that evey month or so......to keep her fresh and on her toes........

anyway its a cool little mod and it only took a couple of hours to fabricate everything i need that wasn't included in the kit........

i kept all the OE heat sheilding and plastic covers in place as well, so when you open the hood it all looks stock, and original, but you don't know what lies beneath... B)  all you can really see is the 5" intake funnel in front of the Rad. when the hood is popped, its really clean lookin........

i'll take pictures when i get a chance.

    OPPS!

I have a 92 LS and would like to add some more performance too. Did you have a chance to take any photos or have any tips for others to do the same. Anything you would do different now that youv'e had this for a while? Thanks in advance!

By the way- isn't this the best site ever!!!

  3. I am thinking of replacing my 92 LS400 worn steering wheel too. Any more detailed directions would be greatly appreciated. Also, I read somewhere that someone replaced thier 92 steering wheel/ airbag with a 94 steering wheel/ airbag- anyone actually done this and are there any mods that need to be done to make this work? Thanks in advance!

Steering wheel removal with an airbag -is- more complicated, but far from something that you can't do.  The airbag circuit on the 1991 LS 400 has an in-line backup power source that maintains power to the airbag for a little under 30 seconds (in case of accidents where the circuit to the battery is cut but the airbag isn't yet triggered).  So, unplug the negative cable and wait 90 seconds to ensure disabling.  In addition, you have to remove the wheel pad before removal (4 screws and a wiring harness to disconnect)

In all, you need a T30 torx wrench (common tool) and a steering wheel puller (easy to borrow from a Checker or Autozone).  Installation is basically the reverse of installation, except for one alignment you have to do.

New steering wheels are over a grand at the dealer, so new probably isn't a good idea.  But a junkyard would probably have a decent replacement.  If you'd like detailed instructions on the removal/installation, feel free to email me at 2456Depew@comcast.net

  4. Hey Linuxfan,

I too have been to Meade lexus in southfield,

I have had all my work done at lexus dealer their and felt quite betrayed sometimes,

had the bushings, brakes, egr pipe, oil changes done on my 95ls,

when oil changes were performed they never rotated my tires or checked my air filter, just made me a little suspect,I even built up an relationship with my service guy. so I know the feeling you are having, I'm also looking for someone in the

metro detroit area to work on my car, if you find someone definitely let me know.

this is my first post guys,

    i have a 95 ls w/181k still running strong.
