  1. Ok,  I see the Nav system in the 05 s have all the missing streets that I don't have in my 04.

Is there an update yet or not?

Yes, it is out and I have it. $244. Probably not worth it unless you have a lot of new streets in your area that are not on your old one. We have a new street that's been there for more than 3 years and it still isn't on the update.

I agree. I just got the new update and I ask it to find the nearest McDonalds which was half a mile away but it told me the nearest one was 26 miles away.

I have a Garmin 2610 which I have to use instead of the Lexus Nav system because the Lexus system is so poor. Garmin has such a superior product...I wish Lexus would use them as their vendor for navigation.

  2. OK. I've talked to at least a dozen transmission specialists, mechanics, and import auto parts stores and they all agree that the RX300 should have a total transmission flush every 30k miles. The RX300 has a transaxle in front which means the transmission and front differential share the same fluid, around 16 quarts. Does anyone think that draining three quarts out and refilliing every 30k miles is going to make a bit of difference in the cleanliness of the fluid?

I called several Lexus and Toyota service depts. and as I suspected, none of them perform a total transmission flush on a RX300, and said it wasn't necessary.  I take my RX300 to a Toyota specialist that has a transmission flush machine that removes all the dirty fluid and replaces it with new T-IV transmission fluid. Contamination is not a problem. They also replace the fluid in the transfer case and rear differential every 30k miles.. Both use gear oil, not transmission fluid.

I'm not an expert mechanic, but I have researched this topic extensively. I would never take my car to a dealership unless I absolutely had to, because they overcharge for parts and services, and usually take care of their own best interests first.

How much does a total flush cost?

  3. I just changed my antifreeze and used Prestone. The manual says use a good brand of ethylene-glycol. Does anyone know the difference between Toyotas Antifreeze and Prestone? The antifreeze that was removed was red and Prestone is green...is there a problem mixing them?

  4. Did you purchase this from a Lexus dealer?  Was it a certified vehicle?

All certified vehicles are to come with 2 master keys and the valet key according to the program rules.

    Tom

Are you sure about this? My mother only got one master key when she bought her car. Lexus is saying that you only get 1 master key and 1 valet key.

    Thanks Paul
