  1. Ok Guys, I know you might not be able to help with uch a vague description but this is all I have.

there is a knocking noise that I hear on my right rear wheel when I first start driving in the morning or when I get off work and start my drive home. It seems once I have driven it for about 5 min the noise is gone and it does not return until the car has been parked for a long period of time (overnight) and restarted again the next day.

Any suggestions on such a vague question?

  2. Hello Everyone, I had the same issue with my car. I had the front bumper removed to do some work on my headlights. it seems that there was a sensor behind the Windshield reservior bottle. The mechanic forgot to plug it back in. when they did that the lights went out. That is what they told me anyway...but that was my exact problem that you are having and that is what they said fixed it.

  3. Ok, I have had had my battery unplugged for an 1hour.When I went back out to see if the code was still there They were still on. These CEL was still on. So since the resetting of the computer did not work what does anyone think the problem is?? Could it be that cable that has been unplugged?

Why didn't the removal of the battery terminal reset the CEL lights?

  4. yeahh I will have them check that plug. and yes when I first turn my head lights on it seems like they are very bright and then it looks like they get just a tad bit dimmer. You would never know if you wer not looking at them when you first turn them on though. They have did that since I have had them though.

I have unplugged the -termanl of the battery. Once it resets those lights should go out right??

  5. Sometimes when people do brake work or suspension work, they damage the wheel sensors.  I don't think they are cheap, and not sure about replacement.  If you get stuck,  I can dig out my disorganized files and see if I can send you a copy of the assembly diagram.

I hope that is not what it is. he didn't have to take the wheels off at all but he was reaching up to get to those screws that were holding the bumper to the fender. I will try un hooking the battery to try and reset and see what happens. Hopefully it will go away.

  6. There are sensors behind the front wheels for the headligh autolevel control.  Perhaps that is what is disconnected.  I know for sure that if the rear sensors are out of whack you will get the same warning lights.

Thanks for the reply, When you say there are sensors behind the front wheel. Are there any harness that plugs into this.Is there a sensor on each wheel? if so I think I know where to start. THANKS!!!Since you mentioned the headlight thing. We balaced the headlights if the headlight balace goes off will that cause such an CEL? Also what do these sensors look like and are they easy to replace if needed.

  7. Hello All, I have been looking in the Foroums. I have seen some things that look close to my problem but I don't think it is because the ABS light is on. Here is my situation

I had my Ballast and Bulbs replaced so the mechanic had to remove the bumper and do work underneath and such. Now when I took the car to the shop these lights was not own. I started the car up and there they were just as big as (#^%. Now since my ABS light is on also could it be that he unplugged a harness or something and then plug it back in.He had to remove the windshield washer fluid container to remove the ballast/headlight on the driver side and I noticed a plug that was not connected and it was kinda of long so it looked like it came from the top somewhere. can you guys give me a clue to why the ABS light came on with the VSC and VSC off light. I don't seem to be having any problems when I step on the gas it will accelerate just fine. Thanks for your help

  8. Hello Guys, I got the new light bulbs but the passanger side still did not work. I now assume that the ballast needs to be replace. I will buy 2 new ballst and replace those also. I did a search on headlight replacement but did not find the info I needed. If someone has done this are know how to replace the ballast I would greatly appreciate it. if there is anyone in the Northern VA,MD or RaleighNC area that has done this on a 99GS400 I would be willing to pay for the sevice.I know it can't be as expensive as going to the dealer. Either way I really need to get it done. Anybody willing to do the job or give me the procedures for it.Thanks

  10. the inside of the headlight bulb is filled with gas and yes...i think it is supposed to be clear.  if it has any blackness to it then its blown.

Do you have any idea of why my lights will not turn on unless I turn the switch several times. I used to be able to just turn the light switch to ON and they would come on with no problems. Any suggestions on what I can try to solve that problem??. Could it be that since one light bulb blew it causes the rest of the lights to act funny..not turn on when the light switch is on

could be exactly as turbogs300 said...ballasts could be burning out....

your bulb could be fried tho. when i had to replace my bulbs, same thing would happen....i would start the car and it would look fine, and then it would slowly start to die out, eventually dying and then not being able to turn back on.

i would suggest going to www.xenondepot.com and ordering a new set of bulbs, and maybe ballasts as well if you have the money...i think the ballasts are like 130USD or something like that.

if you do replace the headlight bulbs, replace both sides at the same timem, otherwise it looks bad

Thanks alot GUYS, I have purchased to OEM lights that were made by Phillips.Just like the ones I took out. I will replace both bulbs.I will check on this ballast and change it also...Once again THANKS ALOT!!!!!!!!

  12. Ok Guys, I looked through the post and could not quite find the problem I am having..... I have a 99 GS400 and just recently I had my alternator changed. I doubt that this has anything to do with my problem but here it is

A couple of days ago. When I turn my headlights on I only get the driver side light to come on. The other side HID light will not come on. I looked at the bulb inside but i can't tell if it is blown are not...It has a blue/black looking ball inside of it. is this supposed to be clear or is that ok?

The Second problem. It seems that now when I do turn the Lights on even the driver side headlight does not want to turn on. I turn that switch several times and only the fog light will come on. Sometimes the running lights won't turn on either. if I just cut the lights all the way off and then just let it sit for a couple of seconds and then try it again the lihts will will work...except for the passanger side.

Is there some sort of relay/circuit in the turn signal/headlight turn on control on the steering column?

How can you tell if the HID bulbs are blown...are they supposed to be clear/white round ball in the center of the hid buld or is it supposed to be blue/black. I have the DR2

I really could use some help on this one.I am so desperate if anyone knows what it maybe my number is 9196069111 and my name is Olanda. I need to get this resolved.THANKS!!!

  13. Okay guys. Only had my GS400 for about three monbths now. When I am fueling up my car and leave the car running, on two different occasions the car has died on me when I put it in drive to leave gas station. It has only happened when I am getting gas. However, it died on me at a stop light today after I took off pretty fast at previous light. What is up with that!? The air filter is only a few months old and no warning lights of any kind are coming on. Does this sound serious or is it a minor problem. I was reading some other post about low idle problems with gs 400s, but it happened while I was braking coming to a stop.

I have had the same problem with my GS400. it has only happened twice. But each time it happened I suspect my gas was pretty low.I leave my car running while I am fueling. When I press the gas to leave and make a sharp turn the car will die on me.It will start ruight back up and then it is fine after that. I think it may be because of letting the fuel get to low....Does that seem probable ?

  14. It's been happening for more than a week now. Get up in the morning to warm up the car, but the car usually just starts and then dies within 2 seconds after being started. I do it 3 to 4 times before it starts right up and doesn't go down again.

Does or did anybody have something like this similar that happened to them? I am growing concern about it's reliability.

Should I get a diagnostic now?

Hello Guys, I have aquestion. I replaced my 02 sensors (The Front 2). I had a diagnostic test done and the guys said it was one of the front sensors. i replace both sensors and the check engine lights still comse on. is there a certain way that the ecu must be reset. I have takent the positive lead of the battery for all of 5 seconds and the check engine light goes away. But after a day or so it comes back on again. Does this seem like another problem now? Please reply to

  15. Check it, IMO a 40 series tire is too thick, but your worried about your ride quality and with a 40 series tire the ride will be alittle better than if you went with a 35 series.. But the look of it is slightly off with thicker sidewalls, that's my opinion.. As for the 02 sensors, if you look down at your engine, to the left off you cats you'll see them sticking out.. They almost have a spark plug look to them..

iF i AM LOOKING AT THE ENGINE IS THERE 2 CATS ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE ENGINE, AND THEN TO THE LEFT OF THE CATS...IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING??

  16. A few more questions:

    Budget?  For wheels?  For suspension?

Are you going staggered meaning wider rims in the back vs. the front?  Or are you staying with the same size for all 4?

Are you willing to shave the inner fender tabs?  If you look inside your wheel well at the fender, you will see a black trim that covers the metal.  Are you willing to shave some of that off?  Some people don't.

The answers to these questions will allow a more meaningful response for your needs. :)

WOW, I didn't know there was so many options to consider. I don't want to shave the inside of the fender and I would like all wheels to be tha same width. So now what do you think???

Well, if you are not planning on running staggerred wheels, then you probably won't have to worry too much about rubbing in the rear since the width won't be that wide. 8.5" will be a safe width but with the right offset, you can also run 9" widths. If you stay with 245/35 tires, you will probably be OK. If you go 245/40, then there may be rubbing in front at extreme turn radii. BUT, like I said earlier, the 40s will give you a softer ride.

Anyway, here is a pic of one of my friend's car. He is running staggerred RezaxIIs like MrSypher but with the fat setup: 40f, 35r vs. 35f, 30r like MrSypher.

OK fellows I think I have it figured out now....245/35 front and back on 19 inch rims...HOW DOES THAT SOUND TO YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!. tHANKS FOR THE 02 SENSOR INFORMATION MR SPHYER!!

  17. not to disect your question, but, from the sounds of it, you would really be concerned with the tires sidewall, not the diameter of the rim.  a 20" rim seems to work best with 30 series, maybe a 35 series tire.  Either one of those are short sidewalls.

You can obviously find tires in 30-40 (45?) sidewall height for 18, 19 and 20" rims.  (yeah, I'm fudging numbers just a hair for perspective)

sounds like you want a good balance of ride quality and big rim.  Sounds like 18 or 19 inches to me.

(and an appropriate selection of coilovers or springs and new struts)

First off you don't want to put a 30 series tire up front.. There's too much weight with the engine, you'll endup killing your rims..

With 19" rims you can go with a 40 series tire for the biggest side wall possible, I think that's one size down from what comes on the factory 17's.. But I could be wrong, it's been at least 2 years since I looked at mine.. You're not going to have a smooth ride like on the 16's but you'll be fine..

Mr Spyher, since your car looks so good. Tell me what setup you think I should get without hampering my ride quality...It looks like you are saying 19in with 40 series tires. ...Is that CORRECT!! Also can you tell me where the front towo 02 sensors are?

  18. Thanks for the reply, I must tell you I am a complete IDIOT when it comes to wheels, tires and then lowering the car. I think I will go with 19in rims.....so can you recommend to me size tires to get and what I would need for lowering the car so there is not much space between the wheel well and the tire. I know this is asking alot but I really need advice from so people who know what they are doing..THANKS!!

  19. Hey fellow lexus owners. I just bought the complete Ltuned shocks and springs setup from Carson Toyota and put them on this weekend. But I think it is too bouncy. Do you guys encounter that same problem or do u think the setup is defective. I am running on 20's. The ride is way off that I am thinking on putting on only my original springs w/ the l-tuned shocks back on and see what happens. Any suggestions...... (I like the look but the ride is not worth it)

    White 99GS 400, RodMillen Front Bumper, L-sportline rear, roof-wing, wise side-skirts....

Can you tell me...just how bad the ride is. I was thinking about doing 20's but I do not want a rough ride. How much did your setup cost all together?
