  1. I have noted that if we turn on say the driver side roof light and then forget to turn off, it does not turn off with delay. It will instead kill the battery and in the morning you will need a battery boost. I was hoping that the car would have some circuit mechanism to turn the light off. Need less to say after starting with a boost you need to reset all the windows and moon roof. Am I missing any thing? Any comments or help will be greatly appreciated.

  2. That is NOT a full replacement warranty once you get past 12-months. It's a pro-rated warranty. For instance, if your battery is 42 months old, Lexus will discount the price of a replacement battery by 50% off their retail price. I'm guessing you'll be dollars ahead to put in a good Interstate or other aftermarket battery. A phone call to your dealer's Parts Department with your VIN and they can tell you exactly what the cost will be. Oh, and that probably will not include the physical change-out if the dealer performs that work.

It is a prorated warranty. It is worth the hassle. I picked up a battery from Costco for $79.00

Please make sure to reset the moonroof and windows. I have noticed weird things a couple of times when I had to start the suv with a battery boost.

  3. 2005 RX...our passenger-side rear 1/4 window black trim piece has "disappeared". Dealer says that we have to buy entire window glass get the trim...$220.00 plus installation!

Anyone run into similiar problem and come up w/ better solution or source?

    Many thanks,

yes, I am also a victim of the same. Luckily for me one day it started rattling. So I stopped and took it completely off. I now need to glue it back. You can check with auto wreckers in your area. They have come on handy in the past.

  4. We have a 2002 RX300 AWD with almost 160K on the odometer. The car has been relatively trouble free. The only repairs we had were leaky power steering pump (fixed unde warranty at 50K) and throttle body (replaced at 130K). We're in the process of moving to Europe for 3 years and will be taking the car with us. Are there any particular engine/car parts that should be replaced as a preventative measure prior to our departure. We plan to do the timing belt, brakes, water pump, all fluids etc.., however we'd like to get an advice as to what might go bad that should be replaced now as the car is approaching 200K miles. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I am curious how much is the shipping of the car to europe. And also most all of the countries in Europe are Left Hand drive. What makes it worth doing all that? Are the cars in Europe much more expensive in Europe?

  5. I'm considering doing front pads on my wife's RX330 (2004) for the first time. I've done many other front brake jobs on other cars. This pretty basic and straightforward? Anything to know other that the aforementioned disc removal trick?

pics and instructions would be VERY appreciated.

    THANKS!

Can you please provide me with some instructions and pictures for replacing my front brake pads on my RX330 2004?

  6. We found there is rattling noise from our engine during the first 3 months we bought our RX 330 04. We brought back to Lexus dealer and they claimed we used the wrong gas and suggest changing different brand of gas. We did and noise is still there. A year later, they said carbon built up in cylinder producing the noise, but even after they clean it, 3 days later noise is back again. THis problem has been dragging for almost 3 years and Lexus concluded they cannot do anything cause our car is built "As it is".

We hired a lawyer to contact lexus and lexus came back with an offer. They wants us to trade in for $31,500. We bought our RX for $41000 excluding tax and interest. That means we are actually leasing our RX, given the lost of $9,500 not to mention another $6K for tax and interest. I just feel that I am being abused, not like I want to get a new car, I would rather keep this same RX is it is functioning properly. But with this engine problem, I lose faith that it can last for another few more years, plus without the warrenty coverage, I might have to pay lots of $$ for mechnical problem in the future if I do keep this car. But I am left with no choice!!!C

Can someone please give me suggestion or let me know if there's any other option for me?

BTW, my RX mileage is close to 40K now.

    What does your lawyer say?

  8. Hi,

I dunno if RX300's have this but Iv got a 100V power outlet on the passenger side of my 99 Harrier. Today out of curiosity, i just tried to test it with a multimiter and ther was no voltage, i checked the fuse and it was good. What could be wrong?

In Rx330 there is one in the baggage area at the back. Please note that it is through an on/off switch. Your switch on the front may be set to off, that is why you do not have the power. :)

  10. I have a 2002 RX300 and wanted to buy the update for the Navigation System. I called the Lexus dealership and found that it is over $300. Does anyone know where I can buy it for cheaper? I've looked online, but can't find anything. Any suggestions?

Go to the main page www.craigslist.org, then autoparts, then do a keyword search for "lexus disc" and you should see ad there. If not, just directly email yodaling@hotmail.com for information regarding the disk. :)

  12. Thank you for everybody's replies..

    they are very helpful.. :D

I dont mean to sound snotty but if anyone can't afford premium gas then they probably shouldn't buy a 42 thousand dollar vehicle.

Wrong - People buy expensive cars for convenience, reliability, and of course prestige. Don't forget that "money saved is money earned". It is very much OK to have the desire to save, be it on gas or any thing else....

However, in today's world, being 'able to afford' premium fuel is a relative concept; what with the way gas prices are going these days. It is predicted to top $4.00/gal for REGULAR in my area before the spring/summer driving season is over... OUCH!! :(

  13. Yes, The 2004 RX330 has a tire pressure warning system, but no it does NOT have tire monitors in the wheels. Tire monitors were not installed until 2007 RX350. The 2004 actually uses the ABS speed sensor for tire pressure monitoring.

Does it mean that if a I purchase new tires there is absolutely no precaution required ???? That the tires have nothing to do with the preasure monitoring system ???

  14. Hi All,

I'm a new owner of a 2004 RX330 as of a few days ago. This forum is a great source of information.

I'm wondering if Tire Pressure Monitoring was standard on all '04 RX330's? Or if it was optional, how to tell if it was so equipped?

The reason I ask is that my RX330 currently has cheapo black rubber tire valve stems that are obviously not Lexus OEM (along with some pretty bargain basement tires). Tossing the OEM tire pressure monitor valve stems and replacing them with $2 rubber ones is exactly the sort of thing I can picture a low-end tire store having done.

Is there a way to tell?

In my case when the preasure in one of the tires foes low, there is a illuminated (amber color) sign on my dash board.

  15. We just purchased an RX 330 and my wife would really like to add the Rear Obstacle Sensing System accessory so I called our local Lexus dealer and they said that it's no longer available (I'm located on the east coast of Canada).

I was wondering if there is anywhere else I can get this accessory for my 2005 RX 330?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Are you refering to the camera at the back?

  16. Hi,

I have a 2004 RX 330. Recently, when I turn on the heat (not defroster), I get this burning, smelly smell for the first couple of minutes when the heater is running. After the heater runs for a few minutes, the smell disappears.

Anyone have experience with this and a solution. My local guy thinks it may be time to replace the cabin filter but not sure.

    Thanks.

    Deepak

I heard someone else say the same and then he realized that the problem was with the seat heaters. Unfortunately I do not know what happened next.

  17. I just purchased my 05 rx 330. It has 54k miles. I will be the third owner, the previous owner bought it from Lexus as a certified pre-owned. He purchased the extended 7 year/100k warranty for it. I know that this covers any malfunctions outside of normal wear and tear, but I have the 60k mile major service coming up (which is around $530). Does Lexus offer an extended warranty that covers things such as Major Services and Brake Pads? And if so, would anyone recommend purchasing this warranty?

To my knowledge, none of them offer break pads under warranty

  18. I have an 04 rx330 with nav.

Anyone know the least expensive way to update the nav?

I'm not concerned about color and cosmetics, would just like the updated streets, poi's....

I recenly purchased the most recent update ver 8.1 that came out in the month of October from yodaling@hotmail.com

You may want to contact him with my reference. He sent me a copy of the DVD and it works great.

  19. As stated above, looking underneath's the only way.

Or the 4th digit of the VIN. H = AWD and G = FWD (at least for the 2004/2005 RX330 models...and maybe others, I am just not 100% sure).

Would you by any chance know, when and how this AWD feature kick in? Are all the wheels working (powered) at all times? Is there any article I could read to have an understanding about this? Thanks

  20. Just saying hi. We are the proud owners of an new 2004 RX330. We owned a 2000 BMW 323i and traded it in just this week. In the past we owned a 2000 RX300 and really enjoyed that vehicle. Just wondering if there is anything we should watch for with this new RX. Our old one never gave us a lick of problems and I expect this new one to do the same. Look forward to hearing from you all.

You seem to have experience with Lexus from before. I also bought a rx330 of 2004 last month. May I ask you some questions please? One of them is how and when does the AWD feature work?
