  1. As a former Lexus tech and service advisor, let me throw in my opionon. You do need the 30K service, but not necessarily everything the dealer is trying to sell you with it. You need exactly what is outlined in the owners manual. Oil and filter change, air filter, cabin filter and brake fluid replacement. That's it! All the other stuff, like alignments, power steering flush, fuel induction service, is not needed. These are additional services recommended by the dealer, not Lexus. Make the dealership follow exactly what is in the owners manual.

  2. In both cases it sounds like a faulty brake light switch. Fairly common and easy to replace. This repair is covered under the factory 4yr 50k warranty. On the '04 RX330's there was a campaign (recall) to replace this brake light switch. Even the new RX's that already have the updated switch that Lexus came out with, still are having problems.

  3. What type of leakage do you have? Oil, coolant...? It's real common on the older ES's to have the rear valve cover and cam seal leak oil. The oil will eventually drip down onto the exhaust downpipe and cause severe smoking and a burning smell. This is most noticeable while stopped at a stop light for a couple minutes. However, there is no way to even lead you in the right direction without more information.

  4. The 93 ES does NOT use super long life antifreeze. Lexus did not begin using that on the ES until 2002. The 93 uses plain Toyota Long Life antifreeze which is deep red in color. It can be purchased from Toyota or Lexus for about $20 a gallon, and needs to be mixed with equal parts of water. The super long life (pink stuff) comes pre-mixed and does not require any additional water. I ahve seen hundreds of Lexus cars where people have mixed the old fashioned green coolant with the red Lexus coolant without any problems. Personally, I would never use the green stuff.

    As far as your oil leaks go, take the previous advise and clean the engine off and see where it is leaking. It will most likely be the rear cam seal and rear valve cover gasket.

    The seat heater is probably a faulty seat heater element. If that's the case, they are very expensive to replace. Check the fuse first.

  5. It's not (that I know of). If you search some more on here, there are ways to get the ECU to give you the code. It's a method of jumping some pins to get the code to flash. I know there are a couple threads on here of how to do it, or Autozone or similar may have a device that reads OBDI.

    I don't believe it is possible to get the DTC's with using a jumper wire on the '94. '93 and earlier that can process of code retrival be performed. The 94 ES300 is the first Lexus model to use the OBDII scanner. I haven't hooked one up on one of those in a while, but if I remember right, I think there is a trim piece on the drivers side of the dash that has to be removed to access the scan tool plug in. You must ahve an OBDII scan tool.

  6. Here you go:

    -With the car started (ignition on), set the LCD odometer readout to total mileage (not trip A or B).

    -Turn the car off.

    -Push in AND HOLD the button/knob that switches the odometer

    -Put the car in ACC mode (push start without your foot on the brake). You will notice the maintenance light blink and go out.

    -Release the odometer button/knob.

    -Turn the car off.

    This is mostly correct. On the ES350 only, you must have the trip meeter set to Trip A. All other models require it to be set to odometer.

    Here it is:

    Turn ignition on and set trip meeter to Trip A

    Turn off ignition

    Push in and hold the button that switches the odometer from miles to Trip A to Trip B

    While holding the button in, keep your foot off the brake, and push the start button twice to turn the vehicle to ACC mode.

    The center of the dash will display 5 boxes that will illumiate and then go off. This means it is reset and you can let go off the odometer button. It must be done exactly like this.

  7. 1982-1995 is OBDI, so that would make yours OBDI. OBDII is 1996+ model years.

    I would have to disagree. Lexus started using OBDII on the ES300 in 1994. '93 and older model years are OBDI, '94 and newer are OBDII, on the ES only. The LS400 switched in 1996. Lexus always introduces new technology 1 model at a time to reduce the number of problems they might have. So, in 1994 they put OBDII in the ES300 along with the first introduction of coil packs instead of a distributor. Then in 1996 they began introducing those features in the LS and SC models.
