  1. How would you get the antenna cable to the replacement antenna? It looks like the product pictured on e-bay is a replacement for the antenna style mounted in the center roof of the european cars (i.e. VW). If you need a new antenna, try www.lexus-parts.com, they have a new one for $54.00.

  2. So what type of clearcoat paint should I buy to apply over the white paint I'm using to fill in chips? Or perhaps I should not worry about topcoating my chip repair.

I made the mistake once before of buying lacquer clearcoat for another car, and it turned out that the lacquer reacted with the factory paint (urethane I think) and ruined the job.

Why doesn't Lexus sell the clearcoat in a touchup size container?

  3. I just ordered a rear window spoiler for my 2001 RX300. Hopefuly it will help keep the back window clean - plus I like the looks.

How is it attached? I assume by adhesive - but there is not much contact area. Do I just clean and remove wax from the liftgate contact points and install the new deflector? Is the adhesive preinstalled - like a peel and stick 3M patch?

Any words of wisdom or tips from those that have installed one before?

    Thanks to all.

  4. One of the car care links off this site had an article on caring for White paint. The author stated that white paint is the hardest compared to the other colors and in many cases does not have/need a clearcoat.

Does anyone know if this is true for Lexus vehicles (painted white)? I thought all modern paint jobs had a clearcoat for UV protection. My Rx300 is color code 065.

I am going to be performing some chip repair and I need to know if I should buy a clearcoat touchup paint. A clearcoat touchup paint is not listed/sold on Lexus-Parts.com so I will need to get it somewhere else (if needed). If clearcoat is used, is it lacquer or something else?

    Thanks for replying.

  5. In my 2001, the DVD player is located near the spare tire. If you lift the carpet and look to the right, behind the tire jack you will see the DVD player. You will probably need to remove the jack to eject the disk. With the key "on" there is a slide button cover that says "open". I think there is an eject button under the cover which is pressed, but sliding the cover may be all that is required to eject the disk.

There are two 2003 DVD upgrade disks for sale on E-bay.

  6. You are correct, the drain plug for the oil is the protruding hex head plug. The other drain is for the transaxle. When you get ready to drain the oil remove the filler cap (where you put the oil in) so the old oil will drain out quicker. I also recommend you drain the oil when it is warm/hot. This way the oil flows out guicker and better flushes the sediment out with it.

  7. I am interested in installing a set of Westin Sport Tubes on my 2001 RX300. These are similar to the side step bars but mount up tight against the rocker panel. Unfortunately, Westin only offers a set for the 2001 Highlander - not the Lexus.

I have read that the Highlander and Lexus are essentially the same (as the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are essentially the same). If this is true than the Highlander part will be a direct bolt on for my RX.

    Can anyone confirm?

    Thanks

  8. The Navi in my 2001 seems to be very accurate but it does have one annoyance. When I set my "Home" address/location as 1372 Street name, the system insists on adding the location as 1407 Street name - which puts it across the street. The only way to keep my home address correct is to enter it as a POI. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I am using the original 2001 DVD.
