  1. ... a proud owner of 2000 RX300. The vehicle has "Premium Sound" which I understand is NOT "Nakamuchi Sound". There is only a cassatte player and no CD player/changer.

Can someone help me with my options to put in (even single-disk) a CD player?

I have contacted a few Lexus dealers in the area and they do not have anything solution other than aftermaket options.

Try a member called pioneersuby. Gus Mancy. I have a 94 GS300. With his help I installed the factory Nakamichi 6-disc CD and upgrades from the factory plain-jane Toyota Cassette Stereo. The Dealer also told me that they could not help. Look him up in the electronics section or send me an e-mail at tobibn@msn.com and I will forward his e-mail to you.

    John Winslow

  2. I have read here about replacing the gear mechanism on the automatic steering wheel position mechanism.  Mine still works (98 GS300), but it squeals into position once every 8-10 key insertions.

Can I prevent it from retracting each time I turn off the ignition?

Can I lubricate something to extend the life?

Is there a repair in my near future?

    Thanks all!

Mine Squeals, Too! I have a GS300, 1994. It only does it if the cabin temperature gets very high, like it is in the hot Florida sun for a couple hours. If it is in the shade or parked in a garage the noise never happens. I just think some plastic expands and it is no big deal.

You said it happens every 8 key insertions?

Mine only happens when the cabin gets hot. Good luck!

  3. Hey jv-I am about to put new rear rotors and pads on this weekend. I have new rotors for the front also, but am waiting until the current fronts wear out. They are drilled and slotted and zinc plated. Any tips/pitfalls to avoid on installing new rotors front or rear (or pads?). I am keeping the front pads (they are newer OEM type pads). Thanks!

The rotors on the 94 have two threaded holes in them that take an 8mm bolt. I used a half inch long one. The purpose for this is to break the rotor loose so that it will just fall off in your lap. Just screw them in and it will break them loose. Simple. I used the ceramic pads, they were more expensive. They create a lot of dust. I think I should have used the Metal Master Pads, they are more gabby but I think they are cleaner. Not sure. Just a theory. Maybe someone out ther can give us some insight on cleaner pads with slotted and drilled rotors. The trick I learned is the 8mm bolt thing. Good luck, but you won't need any.

  4. long time ago when i had to change my braks i didnt really had time to look for performance one so i got an OEM, but back then i said to myself.. next time when those braks ran out i'm going get some nice performance brakes and while i'm at it i also would like to get a cross drill rotors so anyway.. here i am looking for nice setup.. i dont really want to spend $2-$3k for the whole brake setup.. but just a brakes and rotors.. so i made some inqury and i end up from carson toyota with quote

$125 per each rotor and $79 & $69 for front and rear brakes (ROTORA)

i also search eBay and i found rotors for $100 for 2 and up to $400 for 4, basically for $50-$100 per rotor, ofcoures they are not ROTORA..

i dont know nothin about rotors.. but price is just a lot different from $50-$100 and $125,

btw is having cross rotors drill gives you better brakes? they last longer?

also, sometimes if your rotors needs some adjustment, technician usually takes them to special machine and takes a little bit off of them to make them flat, but i heard you cant do that with cross drill rotors.. what the solution here? or those cross drill rotors dont go bad they last you long time?

I have a 94 GS300. I just finished my brake job and got all trhe parts from e-bay stores. The rotors were drilled and slotted, front and rear. all 4 rotors cost $175.00, and that included shipping. The pads for all 4 wheels were $98.00 shipping included. I bought the ceramic pads, but maybe should have gotten the less expensive ($74.00 for all) Metal Master pads. The ceramic ones are not quite worn in, but there seems to be some dust. I installed them myself in about 45 minutes.

  5. I'm not a car-techy person, but if you know what I'm am talking about please help.  My factory amp is going out and I want to get a new radio.  However, no one has the installation kit for it.  They keep telling me that they would have to fabricate it to make everything fit.

Can someone please help me on finding a new radio or the spec's or what do I need to do to replace and get a new radio (possibly one that plays MP3s!!)

    B)

    I'm not sure what pieces I need.  I have a 1995 GS300.

    Thanks

    Cris

Chris, check out ebay for a complete installation kit for an aftermarket unit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=38636 Good luck, naterbug69

Thanks! Now I'm a bit unsure what I want to do. Circuit City will charge me a lot to install this. Crutchfield doesn't have the spec's for it...but will do the research (I don't know when) but the rep said to call her back if I found out the spec's first. I have someone that will isntall it....so I really don't want to do Circuit City.

With the link you gave me (I saw it and it's a pretty good price) I guess I could buy that and still go get the stereo that I wanted and have the person that installs them to install it for me???

    What do you think?

Crystal (yes I am a female who really knows very very little about this...so I need some direction in this area)

THANKS for all of your help!!!

    Chris,

you may be able to save or upgrade your Lexus system. I got alot of help from E. Gus mancy. I have a 94 GS300 and he helped me change it to the Nakamichi system from the standard and all is great. it is worth a e-mail, anyway and you don't lose that Lexus dash!

    emancy@woh.rr.com is his address.

    Good Luck.

  6. My 2002 GS300 smells terrible when I first turn on the A/C. Dealer said it isn't covered under warranty. That it was going to cost $150 for them to clean "something" with no guarantees it would help. Any suggestions?

Find the dead animal in the system and get it out of there. Spray in some Simple Green and that should fix it. I had to do that to my girlfriends Volvo.

  7. i came across a little problem with the install of the stock cd changer on my 98 gs 300. i bought the wire from a member here on loc since my stereo didint come prewired, so i used the wire and tried to install the changer everything went ok until i played a cd. the changer read the cd but no sound came out. none at all.all functions worked but the music wasnt coming out of the speakers. a little help, anybody? thanks.

If you got your stuff from pioneersuby, he stands behind it. contact him and he will make it right. I got a changer cable and system from him for my gs300 and it was great.

  8. Hello ALL,

I have a 98 300GS with the Nakamichi system. On the tape player is #N904.

I need to replace the (3-4) and the (5-6) perset bottons due to damage. :( After calling the dealer, the only help offered was to replaced the radio at a $650.00 cost. I've contacted some salvage dealers but no joy as of now. Does any one have any other suggestions? Thanks

    Hummer_ng

If you want help with this one you need to see a member called Pioneersuby. His name is gus mancy. I own a 94 GS300 that had the regular cassette deck and stereo unit in it. With his help I changed it to the factory Nak stereo, amp and 12 disc cd in the trunk changer for $625. He may have the radio head you are looking for at a great price, too. Send him a line at emancy@woh.rr.com and I,m sure he will give great advice. :)
