  1. Please provide some feedback:

My car is currently at the Lexus dealership due to AC not cooling.... I was informed my A/c compressor is not working and the following items will need to be replaced. I was thinking I just needed to have some freon added what a surprise.

    ** Lexus ***

    A/C compressor

    Drier or dryer

    Expansion Valve

    and refill freon

for a grand total of $2300.00 minus $550 if the expansion valve doesn't need replacing.

    ***Toyota ***

same as above for $1321.23 minus $150 if the expansion valve doesn't need replacing.

Prices above includes labor as well.... I guess my question is, is this reasonable and would you recommend Toyota to do the work?

I guess I'm thinking Lexus might be pulling the wool over my eyes , because I am a female and not mechanically inclined.

    Please advise asap

  3. Why not take it back to where you had the oil changed and ask them to look at it? Note is it very easy to spill a considerable quantity of oil when removing the filter which will run down and drip as you described. If this was the case, accuse your grease monkey of being too sloppy and head to the car wash. You'll have to wash it down around the filter area and under the engine. The filter is straight down about 3/4 of the way on the side of the engine block, driver's side.

Guy thanks for the conformation -

you are exactly correct ...... I took the car back to the Toyota place yesterday and he said the same exact thing. At first I was having doubts about what he was saying now I feel much better .....thanks to you.

It's almost like you were there listening to the conversation.....

  4. This morning I raise the hood to check oil level and I noticed the long tray located underneath the serpertine belt area has what appears to be oil just sitting there.

Could it possibly be the someone fail to place the filter back in correctly during oil change or a bolt is loose?

Again as I stated in my previous post the Oil dripping was never there b4. That's why I am 100% sure this occurred during oil change.

    Please advise

  5. Yesterday I noticed my 1998 GS was dripping oil....... could someone tell me where this possibly may be coming from?

I do recall when I purchased the car last year the mechanic at Lexus informed me the oil pan or the oil pan bolt was missing- {I will need to look at my paperwork to be exact } but it never drip oil b4.

(fyi: I did not purchase car from the Lexus dealership I just took the car there for a pre-purchase inspection).

I plan to take the car to the Toyota repair shop on Saturday- so I was trying to get some additonal info.

It's not a lot of oil just drops- however I want to take care of this asap b4 it turns into a major problem..... by the way my car has 89,000 miles

    Thanks in advance !

  6. Time to purchase new tires........ 98 GS300

Could someone please tell me the size tires that come with the car from the Manufacture? ( I am not interested in supping up the car) just the basics.

Unfortunately I did not drive car to work today so I can't run out and get the tires size, I want to call around today to get prices and hopefully I can land a great deal

Also I currently have Goodyear and I heard Michelin is a better tire could you please confirm that?

What should I expect for pricing?

Thanks in advance!!!! with your help I know I will sound knowledgeable when I start calling.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

  7. I caught a group of guys trying to steal my Lexus car cover :chairshot: , since then I have removed the cover . I would like to put the cover back on to protect paint and seats and etc... however I am somewhat hesitant. :blushing:

My question is : is there some type of alarm gadget that I can attach to the cover somewhere that will make a LOUD sound if someone tampers/ attempts to remove cover?

I don't feel comfortable with the anti-theft pouch that remains in the truck, they (meaning thieves  ) can easily cut the straps leaving pouch in the trunk & taking cover.

Please advise & thanks in advance ! :D

  8. In regards to my previous post : I took my car to the toyota service center and the guy informed me I was pulling the gear shift to the left (4) over drive and I needed to be in (D) all the way to the right. I felt very crazzzzzzzzzy because I was driving in over drive and never new it....... I just knew my 98 gs300 was drinking lots of gas, now I can see a big difference in the gas mileage. Now I have to break the habit , every now and then I catch myself going to (4).

I feel sooooooooooo much better now..... I knew something wasn't right but could not put my finger on it.

    Thanks,

  9. I was just about to post the same question.... so I will piggy back on this post

I have a 98 Gs300 when when I am at 70mph the rpm is registering close to 4000rpm's which I think is running toooooooo fast (drinking lots of gas).

1)When the car is idle/ stopped the rpm is 900, is that to high?

2)would a tune up correct the problem?

    3) is this damaging my engine?

    4) Is this something a toyota repair center can handle.( since the prices are sooooooo much better vs the lexus dealership) ?

    Thanks In advance ;)

  10. The dealership stuck their advertising decal on my car(above the Lexus sign) :chairshot: I want to remove it without damaging the paint. This is not the type of sticker you can peel off or atleast I can't see the corners to lift and peel.

Any idea if that spot will be a different color than the car? and how can I remove decal?

    Thanks in advance.

  12. I purchased the GS 300 car cover from the lexus dealership... I noticed white specks on the hood when I removed cover. According the salesperson and the literature this is a breathable cover.

Has anyone experienced any problems with using cover? fyi this was not a cheap cover you would purchase from Walmart, targets and etc. I was hoping to protect my invest from the Sun and other outdoor elements.

How soon should I remove the cover after rain?

I really like the car cover b/c it is a custom fit for the 98 GS nice and snug.

    Please advise
