  1. After searching the forum and coming up empty, I thought I'd just post a specific question. Apologies in advance if the question has already been asked and answered.

My 2004 L430 has about 60K and I'm unsure whether I should get the transmission fluid/filter changed. The manual suggests doing it only if the car was used for towing (which it hasn't). I thought I had read somewhere that this particular transmission used synthetic oil and didn't require periodic service - "The transmission is sealed (no dipstick) and fluids aren’t supposed to be touched until after 100k miles."

Does anyone know for sure or have any recommendations to make?

    Regards,

    Stuart.

I think I will just change the oil on my 2002 LS430 with 130,000 miles on it. I won't drop the pan. Just a drain and fill.

  2. Being in Louisiana, The only areas that were affected were New Orleans and the coastal parishes. The car is probably fine. We are in Lafayette, LA in Southwest LA. We had no Katrina or Rita flooding. Find the town the car was from. It may help you. The above poster mentioned why would anyone with a Lexus not evacuate when asked. We had a Mandatory evacuation order for all of New Orleans. Good luck!

  3. Hello Everyone

I am from Australia and I have a LS430 2002 Model and I saw that you have been talking on how to install a gps update. This might be the wrong thread but you guys seem to know what you are doing.

I have found on other sites instructions for the 430, but they are similar to the ones you listed.

Now the problem I am having is that when I unbolt my gps unit and when I slide the push / eject switch the dust cover opens but no disc will come out. Now there must be one already in there I think ??? Mabye if it has never been upgraded there is no disc. So I am just wondering if there anything that I need to do in the menu or secret menu of the gps system. Because I have tried everything else, with the car on / off, pressing the i agree or not.

So could you please try and help me.

    Thanks

    Andre

Sounds as if there's no disc in the unit. If that's the case you should get a message 'no disc detected' and there's no maps etc. If that's the case, just try inserting the new disc. If it goes in then that was the answer...if there's already a disc in the unit, another disc won't go in.--Roger Silvey

There is a disc in there that came with the car that I am using now, I just want to take the old one out and replace it with the new one I have.

Just be sure the car key is on to get it to pop out. The unit needs power to open. Read the instructions at the top of this post again and be sure yoiu follow it exactly. It is very easy to change out the disk.

  4. I'm new here, first post, 2003 RX300 owner in Northern VA. Does anyone know how to disable/enable the navigation system so that a passenger can use the navigation menu while the car is moving? Thanks, look forward to sharing ideas/tips/etc.

It's possible. I can override the system while stopped then can use all the functions. Its tricky and every version has a different code. Read up on some of the old post. do a search for "override nav"

    My dvd override is

    press menu

    press dvd

press the top left of screen

press the bottm left of screen

press the top left of screen

press the bottom left of screen

press the bottom right of screen

    a blue screen appears

press and hold "override" for 5 seconds

    it changes colors

    press back

    go to map as usual

you then have it overriden until you turn the car off.

Now I feel like a Man!

OK, I'm 50. Still feelin' like a kid playing my drums on weekends. But, I am a busn. professional. I love my BRAND NEW 2002 LS430?????

    Well, brand new to me.

It holds my complete drum set with room to spare (my wife).

Really, I have always driven CARS. Not trucks. I enjoy luxury and gadgets. Dunno why?

    Lets ride with comfort!

  6. Got mine fixed today! the VSC etc. problem, at a cost of $360 at a non Lexus dealer really good mechanic.

The problem was the battery, original, old, and needed replacement. According to him, the low voltage caused problems in the computer, reading bad values from sensors and really !Removed! it up.

He reprogrammed the computer after replacing the battery and the Lexus runs like a new one.

PS: the $360 includes towing charges of $85, not so bad.

    Hope this will help someone.

Thank you so much for this info. I hope it helps me as well.
