Did the silicone thing 3 years ago, using a mirror to see what I was doing. Still sounds great. Don't be afraid to use a lot of silicone, all the way around.

I got hood and trunk struts for my 2002 LS430 from this site, exact replacements. They work fine. Took about 10 minutes to install.

hood shocks are easy as hell to find , trunk ones are another story all together.
OK GUYS, I FOUND THEM!! Just got trunk struts for my 2002 LS 430 in the mail from FIGS Engineering in Golden, Colorado. Cost $80 for the set. Put them on in 10 minutes...a child could do it. They work great.
(strangely, I just tried their website and it's offline today! Hope it's just a temporary glitch...will keep checking)

Agree with above posts. This is normal behavior. Probably intended to keep the lid from springing all the way up unexpectedly and whacking someone in the face.
