..."vvt leak" doesn't really mean anything, my best guess is he means the cam seal or valve cover gasket. if this is the case, as long as you keep your oil topped up it won't do any permanent damage. the cam seal is usually changed with the timing belt, so if you're overdue for one just have them all taken care of together. keep an eye on your oil level and get it fixed sooner than later. there's no harm in having it leak slowly if you don't run your engine dry, but there is a slight risk that a small leak could turn into a big leak while you're driving without your knowledge, you run the car dry and then you'd be boned.

as far as an engine "lump" leak, again it doesn't mean anything. there's an oil sump, my best guess for this one would be that he means the oil drain pan gasket is leaking. he could also mean your water pump, again replaced with the timing belt as it's in the same area.

if any mechanic told you, in exact words, that there was a "VVT leak" and an "engine lump leak" I wouldn't go back to them. ever. was this a Lexus dealer?

it sounds like your car is probably due for a timing belt, water pump, cam/crank seal job (don't forget the pulleys!). how many miles does it have?

i have the timing and related stuff changed 3000 miles ago.

the mechanic is useless. the same place, i went there that AC was not cooling and hes said i need to replace the Ac condensor which costed me 300 USD (the part) and then when i ask him are you sure there is no other leak in the AC cooling system he says i canot. he rips people money.

things are difficut and things happen the hard way for me.

i will check the oil level soon.

i was told few weeks back by the dealer that i have VVT leak and engine luimp leak and ihave been driving the car for weeks now. i took to a small mechasnic and he said it is not urgent.

is it a serious thing that need to be replaced. what is it and what does it do.

i hope some one familar with cars help me

Here is what happened:

1) the navigation was lost because of the metallic film which cut the RF completely. i managed to restore by making a small (ugly) window just above the dashborad behnd the navigation screen. it is okay now.

2) the check in was not due to the navigation. the dealer checked it and found error P0440 " evaporative emision control malfuncation". i am not it is important to repair but it looks it needs time to be checked. i read few posts on this error and many were saying gas cap leak. Aslo the dealer found leak in the engine called V.V.T leak and engine sump leak. this leak possibly can wait till next service i suppose.

Reset the code make sure your gas cap gasket is good and see what happens, if it comes back then check it out further.

the gas cap looks fine and secure...

the car is recent purchase and i had many things changed (battery, fuel pump, air filter, and normal service). the check light on came and on ad i tool it to lexsus dealer for full check of the car and they swtiched off the P0440 chek engine but told me it needs furhter check and time and i was busy. then after a few weeks, i did not drive much, the same check on came again. the lexus dealer on thier report says also their is a V.V.T and engine sump leak and i am not sure if this casuign the check engine light to appear again

i got the engine check (orange light) came on and took it to lexsus dealer fir check up. they told the the folloiwnfg error " P044 Evaporative emission control system malfuncation"

does any one know what this mean and is it importasnt to be sorted out.

the lexsus guys said he needs time to check the full car and i did not have much time to leave the car with them

note, the car is ls430 model 2001 american specicfications bt imported to dubai/sharjah.

The GPS antenna is under the dash, not on the roof. A lot of the tint films are somewhat metalic, so you just turned the inside of the car into something EEs like me call a Faraday Cage. The Faraday Cage blocks RF, so no RF from the satellites, no Nav. With a bit of work, you might be able to mount the GPS antenna somewhere else, but like the XM / Sirius antennas it may be an active unit with an amplifier built in.

but do you know why would the "check" sign appeared ont he dashboard. i thought it might be linked with GPS reception or just a coincendce that something else went wrong in the car.

Not the tint...more than likely the battery or dirty terminals or alternator.

wel, i lost the GPS reception completely and the check message appeared and i dunno if the 2 are linked, or somethig else wen t wrong and just conicendece.

if any one knows the location of the GPS antena receover let me know. even with windows all open and sunroof open the GPS icon

on the navigation gone off compltely. the check on button is displayed in the dashborard as well, i am not sure is it diue to the GPS after the metallihc top range tint or some thing else a coindcendece. i drove the car for 2 hours but didnot notice anything else

my GPS stops working and the navigation is now going crazy.

this is happened 2 days after i installed a tinted film on the front big window and also the back window. the fil called "V Kool". i also got a message on the dashboard the one that look like the engine symbol. also the GPS indicator on the vanvigation screen went off compltely

I wanted to add that changing those parts fixed the slow starting problem. Car is in good shape again.

i do not have the owner manual and i need one. i tried to register at the lexsus owner but failed because no address or me in the US. i also tried to reigster at the typta tech info where i can hire dcuments at 10 dollar per day abnd i failed after trying many address.

can some one give me LS430 2001 owner model.

i have also a problem, the car takes long time to start (delay start). i chnaged battery, plus and same problem. i have seen 2 electcian and then are not sure what is the problem is , they gave me options, fuel pump, fuel filter, he thinks starter is okay, but not conclusive and i do not want them to try dismanlt and learn as they go. the dealer in this country (Oman, is my country) does not service or repair the non-gulf specs for stupid reasons. i can travel to next country Dubai but long way and have to leave work few days which is a headache.

any one has experience with this?

can i use the car, despite the long time to start, like 5 cranks before it starts?

can some one give me owner manual?

I am currently downloading documents from the Techinfo.Toyota site.. My subscription runs out shortly but if anyone needs a specific document, I will see if I can find it before I get booted off..

By the way. It is not as simple as paying your $10 and downloading the service manual. You have to go into each section and download each individual PDF file. You also need to create a folder structure and filenaming convention so you will know what the PDF file is because many of them are named WO.pdf or something silly like that.. So far I have over 4 hours invested in this.. I certainly have gotten my $10 dollars worth.

I have run into an issue in which my car (90 LS) would take around 5 seconds to start when the engine is cold like in the mornings. When the engine is warm, the car starts quick. Also it starts quick if I turn the ignition key twice to start like let it crank once then turn the ignition off, then crank it again. My mechanic checked the Fuel Pressure Regulator and it was fine. After talking to an electric guy, he suggested the problem is with the Fuel Pump Relay and Circuit Opening Relay both will cost around $100 each from the dealer. Could someone give me an advice?

This problem started showing up after the starter was replaced. I don't know if this could have anything to do with the problem.
