  1. I have a 93 Sc300 with 134k.Last October I had the o/d light flashing.I flushed the fluid, then changed the filter screen, and all 3 shift solenoids.I test drove it and o/d worked again with no flashing light.I put the car away for the winter and when I took it out in May the flashing o/d light was back.I jumped out E1&TE1 and it showed code 42,a bad #1 speed sensor.I had the sensor changed and took off neg. cable and reset ECU.Drove it one day and the light was back.I then borrowed an Innova scan tool and it shorted out the scan tool.I tried jumping E1&TE1 and couldn`t get a code even though the o/d light was flashing.I then tried another scan tool and that too didn`t find any DTC`s.with the light flashing. When you first drive the car after it has been sitting the car will shift into 4th gear o/d once then it goes right back to 3rd then the light flashes.I pull over and check with a scan tool and no DTC.Has anyone heard of this before?

  2. My driver door speaker and my two back speakers are not working i need help on how to make them work i un hooked the back speakers and put the wires on new speakers and they still didnt work what can i do to get my speakers to work????PLEASE HELP ME

It is most likely the amplifier, They fail due to water damage.

It definitely sounds like the amp.did you go to the car wash or have a very bad rain storm? go in the trunk and on the right side under the cd changer if you have one mounted there look down and see or feel if its wet.if it is then its your amp. wait a day or so and see if you get lucky it might work because it use to happen to me when i got lazy and went to the car wash. if you turn on the radio and can here the radio very low then thats the problem. by the way what about the pass. door speaker.

  3. Thanks. here are 2 pics. of the radio installed. its a jvc kwxg500.http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18419

also i installed boston acustics s45`s in the doors and the back deck. they fit perfect and sound great for 4" .http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/car-speakers/m/19480734/ and the only sub i could find that was 1 ohm and shallow mount was the infinity kappa 102.7w http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=19392

  4. Nobody needs to reply.I figured it out with a little help from my friends.I went to my local stereo shop and I bought a one inch pocket filler and a wiring harness that plugged right into the harness on the car ( PLUG A) and that solved the all the speakers and the amp. now for the sub and the sub amp we just spliced into the wires that were in (PLUG D) and with a little luck and patience we got it to work. This is the link for the wiring http://www.intellexual.net/faq/lexusstereo.swf

And this is what the wiring harness looks like(scroll down)

  5. I have been looking at all the threads about installing a new head unit without changing the factory amp & sub.I cant seem to find a definite answer about losing the sub if I install a new head unit.According to crutchfield, bestbuy,& circuit city they all said I would lose my sub. When I went to my local stereo shop they said they can do it & I wont lose my sub.they want $200.00 to do the install plus the price of the radio I choose. I have done quite a few stereos in my time but never on a Lexus. I no how to take the old one out & I am confident I can make the radio fit.I am going with a double din size. All I need to no is how to wire the radio to the the sub amp. I no somebody here has done this successfully can someone please give me some advice. By the way I have the pioneer system.

  6. Ok guys I no this has been asked before but before I spend big bucks I want to be sure. I am about to change my front upper & lower control arms.( 93 SC300) I no the part# for the upper arms are the same for the SC & 86-96 Supra (Dorman part#`s 520443 & 520444) from Advanced Auto Parts, but they don't list a part # on the lower arms for Lexus, but they do for the Supra.( Beck/Arnley part#`s 1014929 & 1014930) I need to no for sure if these arms will fit from the Supra on my SC.Has anyone installed them yet? I tried several other web sites to try and compare part#`s but they didn`t have the same brand for the Supra and SC. Advanced Auto wants $268ea for the lower & $207ea for the upper. while a few other sites wanted $304ea for the upper & $667ea for the lower (OEM). They also had different brands for the Supra & SC. If someone can help me with this I would really appreciate it....THANKS.

I just replaced the lower control arms with the Toyota parts which I bought from Carson Toyota in Carson California. Each lower arm was $218 and shipping was $40. I understand that they sell a boatload of them for Lexuses. Phone is 888.747.4777. Installation is basic, just mark the alignment settings on the cam adjustments,. or get the car aligned when you are done.

Thanks alot for that info John. I`ve been checking a few different Toyota dealers on the web. thats about the average price. I saw a few that will ship them free if you spend over $250. I need all 4 so that will cover the shipping. Just in case you try your local Lexus dealers they all play stupid and say they dont no if they will work. But I did get one guy from Manhattan Lexus that told me on the side that they should fit also.

Hey John I ordered my LCA`s from Carson also. They were very helpful.Plus all the other places had to order them & the free shipping had to be under 5lbs.I found a place called http://www.importpartsconnection.com/aboutUs/index.aspx (877) 793-0057. They sell the upper arms for $239 ea with free fedex next day shipping if you plan on changing yours.also don't buy any after market upper arms they all seem to wrong. they measure 11' wide instead of 9 1/2.

  7. No, they can't be the same because the Lexus ones are made of gold! Must be, for the 700+ price my Lexus dealer gave me. I don't mind if they want to have steak every now and then, but every night? Sheese..... I'm going to order some Supra one's if they have a decent return policy and compare them to mine soon. Hopefully someone can answer this thread before I get into all of that.

I ordered 2 LCA`s from Carson Toyota http://carsontoyota.com/ (1-800-908-6968) as recommended by member john denninger.I have a 93 Sc300. They cost me $215 ea.They said they were from a Supra & they would bolt right up. Ask for Gordon in internet retail sales. He knows his stuff, but off on Monday`s.They will charge about $40 to ship for both. They are very heavy. Also I ordered the upper c/a`s from a place called Mobile Auto Parts (877) 793-0057 http://www.importpartsconnection.com/aboutUs/index.aspx , and ask for Joe. They wanted $239ea & free shipping FedEx next day. I was planning to do the job this weekend but the weather didn`t corporate. The parts look like they will fit.I will give it a try next weekend weather permitting. one more thing don't order the after market upper control arms they all seem to be to big. 11 inches wide instead of 9 1/2.

  9. I've been experiencing a fairly severe wobble in the wheel at various speeds and when breaking at higher speeds. Feels like I need new rotors, which may be the case, but I also think all of the wheels on my SC are bent because my local tire dealer told me he couldn't get any of them in perfect balance (even when he puts weights on both the inside and outside of the rim) when I bought new tires a couple months ago. Anyway I'm looking at buying some new wheels now as this wheel wobble is getting extremely annoying. Does anybody know if my new set of 225/55 R16's will fit on these rims? I know it's probably an easy answer but I don't know enough about tires to know if they'll fit or not. And what do you guys think of the way the wheels look? My 97 SC is silver, so I think it would be a good match. I hope these rims will fit, they seem to be within the obvious boundaries of what Bosy said.

Just did a little more research and figured out the stock rims are 16x6.5, and since those rims are 16x7 I don't think the 225/55R16's will fit. If someone could confirm that though, I'd appreciate it.

I will probably go with the 16x6 rims and the 225/55 16`s. I have to make up my mind on the tires, either the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position or Yokohama AVS ES100. I only drive the car from may till october. the bridgestone have a much better tread life.

  11. OMG, why is it that people keep asking the same questions over and over again? I'm getting tired of this BS and typing the exact same answer every day. The ability to swap tires/rims all depends on three factors; offset, overall diameter, and overall width.

OFFSET - This is how far the lugs connect to the wheel in relation to the wheel's center line. Stock offset is +50mm, which looks pretty sucken in on our cars. Max offset you can go without scrapping the fenders is +38mm; max offset you can go with your fenders rolled is +22mm.

DIAMETER - When you increase the diameter of your rim, you need to decrease the thickness of your tires (overall diameter). If your overall diameter is increased too much from stock, then your tires will scrap the wheel wells everytime you hit a bump. If the tire's too small, your undercarraige can potentially bottom out and scrap the ground. Also, changing the overall diameter can affect your speedometer's readings. A general rule of thumb is not to increase/decrease the overall diameter by more than 3% from stock.

WIDTH - Often times larger diameter rims will also be wider in order to support wider tires. Our SCs can go as wide as 10" on a stock +50mm offset before they start scrapping the suspension. From what I've read, 12" is the widest you can go (requiring rolled fenders and +22mm offset), although I've never seen more than 11" fitted successfully.

Short answer to your question is yes, 225/55R16s will fit on your car. The more important issue is what rims you are looking at and if they fit the parameters above. For your application, you don't really need to worry about anything except offset. Unless you were looking at very low profile tires or very wide tires/rims, then you would need to concern yourself with these three factors.

Thanks for the info. You should try not getting so upset. I was reading a few different`t threads and I wanted to double check thats all. The short answer would have been fine.I just wanted to be sure before I spend $1000 on tires and rims from The Tire Rack and have to pay to ship them back. I`ll probably stick with the 15" because it will save me $150 -$200.

  12. I have a 98 SC400, the climate control panel light went out (half the screen was showing and half was not) I removed the console in an effort to replace the bulb but I can not see how to get behind the unit to expose the bulb and replace it. What do I have to do to get acess to the bulb(s) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Michael

You need to remove the 2 screws that hold white LCD plastic holder. Remove all solder at bulbs joint. Slightly bent the LCD to expose the bulbs under the plastic holder. Install new bulbs. Solder the joint. Put everthing back and you are done. You can contact me if you are still have questions.

Do you have any pictures of this white plastic holder ? I had the console apart and got to the unit but couldn't see how to remove the face plate (if there is one) I hate to go to the dealer and pay huge dollars to replace a few bulbs. I cant believe that they made it so hard to replace a few bulbs.

You can send it out if you can wait about a week or so to one of these 2 places.

I have used both places & they both do good work. There turn around time is fast also. The guy from eBay will work with you on the price if you contact him through his own email address. He will change your LCD screen a replace all the back light bulbs too. The other place (lextech) only does lighting.

I have a 1998 SC there is nothing listed for the 1998 SC. Did they do something different for the 1998 models ?

I don`t no for sure if yours is different than those listed. That would be on the LCD.The bulbs are not a problem. You should just e-mail the guy and see what he says. If it can be done he`s the guy.

  14. how fast has anyone gone in all kinds

I got my 93 Sc300 to 140 mph on the NJ turnpike near Newark airport around 11:30 pm. This car is all original except for the Ingen air intake. Only needed about 1 mile or so to go from 85 to 140.I got a little paranoid looking for that hiding trooper even though I have a radar detector. Also I had to get off the next exit.
