Those models have a known issue of pre-mature wear of the rubber bushing inside the strut mounts. The struts themselves do not need to be replaced to fix the noise(alothough it wouldn't hurt). New strut mounts is what is needed to get rid of the noise.

Update: New strut mounts...all rattling and creaking from the front is gone.
do you have to redo the alignment after the strut mount replacement. do you have to replace the strut bearing too? does it have to be done at a lexus dealership.
thanks.
I ordered the mounts from Napa auto parts. It came with the mount and the rubber bearing thing.
I had my local tire shop/auto place replace the mounts and do an alignment for 135 bucks.
Mounts/bearing cost me 150 for both.

Hi,
I am 23 years old. I purchsed my 02 ES300 when I was 22. ALl my friends nagged me by telling me it was an old man's car. I didn't care, I got a lot of bang for the buck!
As I drive my lexus everyday I notice one thing, all of the other ES300/330 drivers are much older than I am. I am talking primarily the 02 and up models.
I look much older however not as old as the ES drivers around me. Any thoughts?
Maybe its just every ES300 in my neigborhood, or NY for that matter.
I see a lot of younger guys driving the first generation ES.
This won't make me switch cars, just maybe get tintied windows.
So this is why I am curious to the ages of our memebers.

So I guess the new mounts that can be bought will not wear prematurely like the ones that came on it from the factory?
I got new front struts, didn't think about mounts too until I saw this.

Is it easy to fix? Is a new harness needed or can it be fixed easily?
And can this affect the ABS while currently driving?

97 es300. I got the front struts replaced and the rear rotors turned and new rear brakes. After I got the car back, the ABS light was on.
The mechanic said it is normal sometimes and should go off in a day or two, He said if it didn't then bring it back.
Is this really normal?

Any pictures of what to do on the web anywhere, or can one of you guys post a pic?
I have the same problems with my 97 es300. Got the struts replaced and still the noise is there.
I bought some silicone lubricant, but am not totally sure where to spray it.

I plan on driving my Lexus for a while until I get out of college...then on to the CTS-V 2009 or later model.

1997 Lexus ES300. One owner before me.
Traded in a 2000 Cadillac Seville with a blown headgasket and paid 3000 difference to get the Lexus.
Needs rear breakes, front struts, and some inside radio bulbs replaced.
135k miles, good condition, some minor wear.
White with Black interior.

My cadillac used to do the same thing. Does your car smoke alot on startup? Could be the headgasket.
