  1. Were you able to solve your CEL 0171 code? If so could you tell us what have you done?

    I also have a 2000 Lexus RX300 at 80K miles and having problems with the same 0171 code... I cleared it several times and within 5-10 miles of driving it comes back... It causes the car to switch into the safe (fuel rich) mode which is causing power loss (slow acceleration), some (burnt!) fuel smell when the car is parked in the garage after a drive.

    I have cleaned the MAF once with an electronics spray cleaner which did not solve the code 0171 problem... I had also replaced the A/F ratio sensor (Bank 1 sensor 1) with an original Denso sensor about a year ago which had then solved a different CEL code...

    I would like to learn from your experience if you don't mind sharing...

    I can't speak for the original poster. This has been my experience. Have a '99 with 125k miles that continues to generate P0171 codes. Cleaned the MAF - no change. Replaced the A/F Sensor - Ran better, but continues to give the P0171.

    My OD is working despite the P0171. When I go wide open throttle or close to WOT, the engine completely chokes up. Loses power, barely accelerates. Until I cross that threshold, the engine seems strong.

    My father, who is a retired Ford mechanic, is convinced it is a vacuum leak. I have not had any luck finding the vacuum leak yet. I'm going to take a look for that hose on the back of the air box next. After that I'll look for the vacuum leak a few more times before I start replacing more parts.

  2. I have a 2000 rx300 and I have 116k miles on it. I've had to replace my transmission twice since i've had it. And I've only had it for 2.5 years now. So I think it may only be the AWD model which is what i have.

    Just check the model code found on the driver's side door, at the bottom under the barcode.

    MCU10 = FWD (2WD)

    MCU15 = AWD (4 WD)

    I am having trans problems with my '00 rx300. If I take off too fast, and by that I don't mean real fast, it often will not shift into overdrive. I can pull over, turn off the ignition a sec and restart and as long as I acellerate slowly, it will shift fine. When in overdrive, I can turn the OD button on and off and it will downshift and shift back just fine as well, it just does it when acellerating from take-off or lower gears. Anyone have this problem? If so, what was the cause, and how much can I expect to pay to have it fixed (short of just buying a completely rebuilt transmission)?
