  1. Actuallly try ebay...

I wouldnt pay the dealer to install them. They're more likely to mess up than you. Just use a overhead dry erase marker to masking tape to slight the "Lexus" and the "LS 430" emblems, the Lexus L's are aligned automatically by pins. Just heat the old emblems up with a hair dryer, pull them off, clean up the tape residue then peel and stick the new ones.

I'm with you on the gold, not my cup o tea. Since you got white though, have you seen the black pearl emblems? They look GREAT on white...

No, I wasn't aware of the Black Pearl Emblems. I could see where the Black L would look nice on the front of a white car - not sure about the rear though. I'd have to se what theyactually look like. Anyone have any pics of these? I guess I can always order both, the chrome and black pearls, and pick the set that looks best. But the gold has to go.

I'm a bit surprised that you mentioned that the dealer would screw up embem installation. Sure, stuff like that happens at Chevy and Ford dealerships all the time but I figured Lexus dealerships would have a reputation for doing things right, not wrong. Of course, I've never had to service my previous GS300 so I have no true experience with Lexus Dealerships.

    Thanks for your input.

  2. I also suggest you use synthetic oil simply because it does everything better, and its not REALLY that much more $60 for a synthetic oil change isn't bad, Lexus charges over $160 to do a synthetic oil change on an LS430.

    Damn!!! The Audacity!

Bulk Mobil 1 Synthetic will cost you $5.60 a quart.

I used this on my previous GS and definitely on my vette

And (don't shoot me) as long as you watch them, make sure they change the oil filter, and check the oil level before you drive off, Jiffy Lube is fine...

I've been using the same Jiffy Lube for 3 years. Great bunch of guys that let me bring my own Mobil 1 Synthetic and they just charge $25 to change it. They also let me put down boards so that I could get my fun car (which is lowered) up over their rails around the pit.

  3. I just took delivery on an 01 LS430 but do not like the Gold Emblems, mainly because they clash with the chrome all around it! I'm generally not into all that gold Anyway and the Gold "L" in front is just took for me.

So I went to The Lexus dealership and their total price for all 3 emblems in Chrome (The L in the Front, "Lexus" and "LS430" in the rear) was just a tad over $100. I just saw a more expensive Internet price of $129. What am, I missing here? BTW How difficult is it to remove the old ones and install the new ones? Or woud you just pay the dealer their $85 to do the job right?

  4. Thanks for the info everyone.

I will continue to use the synthetic oil on my car after being convinced it is much better.  It's just that Ive never had a real nice car so I am just getting used to babying this car. Example. I'm clearing my garage of all my professional gym equipment in order to park my car.  Thanks, Chris

I know how you feel. I did that when I bought my fun car (see sig). I'm trading my GS and picking up an 01 LS430 tomorrow myself. Great car! I hope to keep it if its not too much car for me - I have 5 days to decide.

  5. I finally found the LS430 I wanted for the right price. An '01 White EXT, gorgeous CA Walnut Wood (I do not like the Birds Eye Maple or the U/L Gray) , Mark Lev/Nav, Tan Interior. And all these were must haves. Icing on the cake includes Premium 17 Inch wheels and Gold emblems, although I'm more of a chrome guy but I'm not complaining. Man, I've been looking for this for the right price for well over a yr. There was always one must have feature missing or the price was way too high.

Wanting to pay less than $40K but knowing it didn't look like it was going to happen soon (especially with all my must haves) I seized a $43K LS430 at Carmax, transporting it from a GA Store. But the incredible news is that it only has 12,805 mi on it. WOW, practically new and $18K less than the originl MSRP - and with no lux! NOT BAD. Traded in my '98 GS300 for it and Carmax is being very generous with the trade - $26K difference (excluding Tax, Tile transfer).

I tell ya, Its amazing that where I live, these money-hoarding dealers are still trying to sell 01 LS430's with Mark Lev/Nav for $46-$49K and thats with models that have over 20K miles on them!

I gotta admit though, this car with all its bells and whistles is intimidating. And I'm not use to a big car although a member did point out that it not a big as a 745i or an S500. The GOOD news is if I do feel she is in fact too much car for me, I have 5 days to get a full refund (with no per diem charge!) along with my GS.
